I use Solus since almost 2 year. On both my working and my home notebooks.
In the last days I've changed all the network stuff at home. I went from a generic "router, gateway, switch" to something a bit more professional (and safe, at least after reading around about this generic hardware). Anyway, this more professional setup uses a Ubiquiti EdgeRouter X and 2 wireless AP. It uses VLANs and the whole stuff is configured in a way that it shares the various subnets (each subnet is a VLAN) is shared between a wired port and a wireless SSID (from the AP). After I've finished with this installation I've noticed that:
if I start the notebook with the LAN cable connected, it connects to internet without problems
- if I plug and unplug (after at least 10, 15 second) the cable, it happens as the following situation
if I start the notebook without the LAN cable connected, it connects to the Wi-Fi, and then:
- when I plug the LAN cable, even if the DHCP gives it a new IP really fast, the notebook needs a gigantic amount of time to understand that the wired connection is available. And, moreover, I've to push the OS (select multiple times) to choose the wired LAN, otherwise it will stay with the Wi-Fi.
- if I unplug the cable, and plug it again, the whole stuff starts again.
- internet connection is extrem slow. So slow that no pages are loaded.
I've noticed that the notebook, with wired and Wi-Fi active, has 2 different IP addresses. Anyway, I think it's correct, because it has 2 different MAC addresses.
The problem is definitely not the Ubiquiti hardware, because I've asked there and it should not be a problem (moreover, such a configuration is common with VLANs).
I've tried also the change a bit the Routes, but it changes nothing.
What it looks is that the OS is unable to select a connection. Any help would be appreciated.
Anyway, the solution that works up to now is to disable the Wi-Fi when the cable is connected.
