What's the current update path for Solus?

So I'm considering switching permanently over to Linux. Have had my fill of distro hopping and have settled on Solus as the distro of choice. Microsoft continues to make dumb moves.
Anyways, just like the title asks, what's the current path for Solus?
From my very limited understanding it looks to be.
Permanently switch from Solus software center over to gnome and discover.
Change the repo(not sure if I'm understanding correctly)
Change the core over to serpentOS with the intent of making Solus Atomic.
I'd rather not deal with hiccups and would prefer to wait for the BIG changes to finish first before I download the new iso and rely solely on Solus. Just not sure if how long a wait it will be. I know the team doesn't give time estimates.
Also, how can I become involved more? I know next to nothing about coding and Linux, but I figure helping test and learning about this would be a cool way to increase my knowledge while providing support for a cool distro

Well if you want to wait until the epoch repo is done, we have depcreated solus-sc in favour of discover and gnome-software and we have rebased on Serpent OS for stuff like moss replacing eopkg... It is going to be a while.

As you noted we do not give ETAs but I will say this isn't all going to be completed soon. Solus 5 https://github.com/getsolus/packages/milestones is when we have said we will rebase on Serpent OS. The number of issues listed and the number of releases in-between 4.6 and 5 are not indicators of how long it will take. It is highly likely IMO there will be 4.9, 4.10 etc, we will not be rushing the migration.

Even if we did not have a no ETA policy I would not be able to give you an answer. As I explained in our off-topic Matrix channel earlier today, Solus 4.6 was originally planned internally for a May release, we ended up releasing 14th October. It takes as long as it takes.

As for getting involved there are many ways for people to help that do not involve programming. Packaging, writing documentation, translations, unstable repo testing, reporting bugs, help fellow community members with their issues or a financial contribution to our Open Collective . https://help.getsol.us/docs/user/contributing/getting-involved/

I would recommend starting by joining our Matrix spaces getting to know people, get a feel for things and see where you think you might be able to help.

Note we live all over the world and have jobs and other responsibilities so we may not always be quick to answer.

I could definitely see myself joining on around 4.8 as most of the major work aside from the convergence will be finished. That said, I would love to assist in any way possible and one way I could do that is to create a discord server for Solus
It's a great way to attract new people to the distro
It doesn't cost a penny to make
Its alot more useable and popular than many other apps
If you guys would be okay with that, let me know and I could get started on it. I have plenty of moderating experience.

BitTim8 Not a team member but I'd say it's highly unlikely. Usually such roles are reserved for people who are known and trusted in the community, not new members.
(also I'm unsure whether the team wants a Solus Discord server to exist, even if the other considerations didn't apply)

With all due respect, creating a discord server, when, by your own admission, you're not even a Solus user, is like, I don't know, surrealistic?

My piece of advice, choose one of the four versions of Solus 4.6. Burn an ISO, install it, try it, use it, see if you like it, if you have any problem, and if you stick with it, or not.
