I updated my laptop last night It appeared to be snappier But just did my other laptop and
it also exhibits this so I say this was a great update with no issues.

penny-farthing But I can use my computer without hibernating so far, so there is no rush.

I got tired of restarting all my apps every morning, and decided to just try a different approach. When I'm finished with the laptop for the night, I just use META+L to lock the screen. It's not as satisfying as a complete shutdown, such as hibernate implements, but in the morning when I provide my password to unlock the screen, everything is in the same state as when I locked it the previous evening.

And a big difference is, the wifi still works well. There's no need to do a reboot to allow me to connect again. (Unlocking is also a lot faster than waking from hibernation, which is a small but welcome advantage.)

The downside, of course, is leaving the machine running all night, while it's not being used, but I can deal with that as a temporary workaound. I mention this in case it might help someone who hasn't tried this approach yet.

      Then laptop is not only locked and running all night.

          I tried "sleep," which is available in the main menu (Plasma), and was disappointed to see that it responded the same as hibernate. I'm not sure what the difference is between that and "standby," but I'll look for the latter in the system settings, and give that a try if it's there. Thanks for the suggestion!

          Apparently it requires entering "sleep" first, which I'm pretty sure didn't help me. I created a keyboard shortcut for "hibernate" a long time ago (invokes systemctl hibernate when I press Ctrl+H), but I just tried to do the same for "suspend," and that didn't work (command not found). So, it appears that my only alternative is to lock the screen until whatever causes this glitch can be fixed.

            I'm on vacation right now and don't have my laptop to hand. Otherwise I could check it. I'll take a look next week

              Ok, we are getting way too Off-Topic here, but the difference between suspend and hibernation is the first saves the state of the system to RAM(so needs energy) and the latter saves to hard drive for sleep.
              In case of hibernation you thus can awake system even after power outage.
              Both suck though, cause I have never seen them work reliably, across distros.
              Just because it works now doesn't mean that the next update isn't going to break it.
              On my Fedora machine wake-up doesn't work properly currently.
              And I personally don't like to use a feature that is prone to break every x weeks.

                Sebastian I'm also one of those that never bothers to use hibernation or suspend. I'll let it go to sleep automatically, but usually I'll just do a proper shutdown when I'm done.

                  In any case, pressing SUPER+L effectively locks the session without turning off the computer.

                  Also, just for your information, I processed a final Solus update today (6:50 PM, French time) that concerned apparmor, kernel v 6.10.11-303 and NVIDIA driver 560.35.03.
                  Despite this new update, there is nothing new regarding the problems related to the hibernate and suspend functions.
                  So, wait and see... and as I said above, as long as it doesn't prevent us from working on the computer, we have to know how to be patient.

                      Yeah, it's the "Win" key on some keyboards, and just the Windows icon on other keyboards. Same thing, though.

                        That's something most of us probably already understand. But it's the difference between Standby and Hibernate that I asked about. Suspend is a category in Plasma's system settings, but not a command.

                        Which DE are you using? On Plasma, apparently the only way to use Standby is to Sleep first, and that doesn't help me, as I said. (See the image above.) The only apparent solution for me is to just lock the screen (META+L). Although it leaves the computer running, it works, and I don't need to restart 10 different applications in the morning, and try to remember where I was working in each of them.

                            So, you use a wired connection, then? And I'm curious how you're invoking standby on Plasma. I haven't found a way to do that without a sleep first, and that ruins it for me.

                                1. Selecting "Configure Audio Devices" in volume widget open blank "Sound" page in System Settings. Can be filled by switching settings pages back and forth.
                                2. (edit: FIXED) Networks widget shows extra entries, blanked lines as all-empty non-functional connections without configuration, nameless, and without properties. Based on their count it seems like they double visualize the existing ones but with null properties.

                                  Hi this update unfortunately makes my laptop boot either to a blinking line or I get the message failed to start lighten.service.

                                  I have older (700 series) Nvidia graphics but don't have the proprietary driver installed.
                                  Redoing usysconf run -f doesn't help unfortunately.

                                    that did not work sadly. I did journalctl --unit=lightdm and got this: "Nvidia: failed to initialize the Nvidia kernel Module. Please see the system's kernel log for additional error messages(...)"

                                      Kiwimoose Are you sure you don't have the nvidia drivers installed? What does eopkg li | grep nvidia say? Are there any packages without "modaliases" in the name?

                                        Damn sorry about that so apparently I had installed the driver while trying to fix this. However with the driver uninstalled it still only boots to a blinking line... made some photos of parts of journalctl that looked informative:

                                          Kiwimoose a small heads up about this. Booting with nomodeset had the same result. Also with the failed to load module "nv" error (idk if that's even relevant). Also I've been running this install of Solus for a really really long time now (might even be a decade) and I believe that maybe the default display manager used to be gdm at one point and maybe that's causing issues? But no idea...

                                              I would like to briefly say how great I think your work is! Just returned home, I start my computer and immediately I am offered a "security update". The CVE number was published today and immediately the fix lands on my system. Incidents like these in particular always give me a secure feeling that I am in good hands with Solus. I have often found many and also current packages in the repository, even niche ones. Fairly up-to-date kernels and fast response to security incidents. These are reasons why I believe in Solus and recommend it to family and friends again and again. Many thanks to all of you, the whole team for your commitment!

                                                ReillyBrogan thanks for the help! I'm a bit embarrassed to say that apparently the issue was me having run out of disc space during the upgrade. I noticed when trying to save a log as a text file. Then freeing up space, checking for broken packages + update and redoing usysconf triggers was enough. Sorry about that and thanks again for the speedy help!

                                                      Nothing. There were other changes such as to calamares which you would not have noticed that we need for ISO testing, yaru just so happened to be in unstable when the sync occured.

                                                          As far as I understand, there will be no updates this week, and there will be an ISO image release? Or will the ISO image be released next week?
