Printer missing from HP list

not printing because of no legit driver.

the only other thing I'm reading consistently is the thing I never tried before. it says install ghost, the ppd, foomatic then configure thru cups/open source page
"Access the CUPS web interface: If your usual interface for managing printers doesn't work or you don't like it, open a web browser and go to http://localhost:631/admin. You can manage all the printers installed on your computer, adjust their settings, and even add new ones—all from this web interface. Note that this might be available on other computers on your network; if so, replace "localhost" with the relevant hostname or IP address."

I'm unfamiliar with this method; many swear by it.
edit: you have to have firewall off is also in my cups reading a lot

No go as you can see the filter failed. I also tried Ubuntu 24.04 from a live USB and that printed the test page fine. Arggggg.

banger what's Ubuntu have that Solus doesn't have? a bundled .deb with your crap in it is probably right.
I vaguely remember this being covered..

At this point all you can do is request the package at devtracker and throw yourself at the mercy of the devs. I have.
Have no idea what Filter Failed means. A missing component?

What's Solus based on? Zorin which works is based on Ubuntu 22.04. I have been googling filter failed but no fixes for my printer, some saying to downgrade ghostscript.

I would say some kind of issue with ppd but not totally sure
when I had filter msg on printers in past I had change ppd file.
Or this maybe dunno (I have no idea whats in it) maybe something will stick out at you

Axios this is an old-school parallel port connection, not usb...do we need firmware, drivers, etc for that port?

brent Thats why I had him run the lpinfo -v and it showed port
so it should all be loaded.
Then he corrected his connection but it still failed.

So I copied pnm2ppa.conf to /etc and rebooted as instructed in the file. It was already set to the 710 so no need to change anything. Still getting filter failed and nothing in the cups log other than hpfax failed on 20 Aug.

Also going to count sheep will sleep on it and think more tomorrow.

Tried all the PPD files from the generator, 712, 720 etc still getting filter failed. Looking through the software app and footmatic-db is already installed so they must have removed the 710 in a recent update.

I was able to compile pnm2ppa, of course no way for me to test this without the right hardware.
I uploaded the folder containing the compiled binary to my dropbox

You can download the zip file, extract it and enter the folder pnm2ppa-1.13

Now, you need to install first make and foomatic with
sudo eopkg it make foomatic-db foomatic-db-engine

then in the pnm2ppa-1.13 folder run sudo make install
This should install pnm2ppa
To test this, run pnm2ppa in terminal
Check also /etc/pnm2ppa.conf again. You might have to set version to 710.

Then try again to set up the printer in browser via http://localhost:631 with the right ppd file as described earlier.

What did I do wrong I got the footmatic to install correctly. Checked to conf file it is set as 710 already. Just the install that went wrong.

WetGeek very impressed. the configure/make/install part of the sourceforge package tarball was the only stone left unturned in this whole thread.
