mouse_AUS Hey there! Same here. Lost all sound and only have dummy output available. Both gnome and budgie.
Sync Updates for Week 31, 2024
Sound works as normal on my Budgie (Realtek® ALC887) after the update. Also no other problems atm.
Has the gufw firewall also been updated? Or something related to it? Because it doesn't open for me anymore.

ReillyBrogan Downgrade the kernel from this command
sudo eopkg it https://cdn.getsol.us/repo/unstable/l/linux-current/linux-current-6.9.10-295-1-x86_64.eopkg https://cdn.getsol.us/repo/unstable/l/linux-current/linux-current-6.9.10-295-1-x86_64.eopkg
Works on me though actually still little problem there (Output Device in Settings -> Sound shows actual output like "Headphone - Alder Like ....." but I can't hear the sound. I have to restart, log out or plug in earphone to my PC).
Can everyone that has audio issue, after this week update, comment on this issue on github? The comment should contain at minimum : your hardware specs (inxi -b
) and whether or not rolling back to previous kernel, pipewire, sof-firmware or other package helps. Cheers!

Harvey cherry-picked discord 0.0.63
What will us these messages say?
What?
Some kind of audio/video plugin for Firefox kept crashing last night after updating - will report back if it keeps happening after a restart. Not sure if this is related to the update or not.
Firefox still does not work with hardware acceleration enabled, which I thought was due to this known issue, but this was supposedly fixed in mesa 24.1.5 and I'm still having issues.
Harvey what are these cherry-picked messeages stand for?
What info is it?
hdansin I use brave, but I also turn off the hardware acceleration there. It just works better that way.
AlphaElwedritsch The discord package was cherry-picked. This means, it was updated for Solus now, during the week instead of at the next sync on friday. This means, that users of the program discord can run the update command in software-center or terminal now, to get the update for discord.
This is only done for special cases. Discord is one of them.
Well this is a weekly sync thread for repository updates. If something is "cherry-picked" it means someone on Solus staff has decided to push one or more packages to the stable repository early instead of waiting until the next sync.
We generally cherry-pick packages for urgent bug fixes or to address security issues. Discord however is... special.
When Discord put out a new version it prevents the old versions connecting to Discord servers and in their infinite wisdom prompts the user to install a .deb package. Since Solus is not a Debian based Linux distribution this .deb package is completely useless and confuses users. So we have to cherry-pick every Discord update to keep it working.
Thank you very much for clarifying.
I use the flatpak version of discord to avoid the annoyance (well, the annoyance of having to manually update, not the annoyance of using discord )
