Hi, my wife's parents bought a new laptop. I went with them to buy it a few months ago and supervise the transaction since they are older and not savvy. Needless to say I advised them not to fork over a few hundred for the MSOffice (365?) suite they wanted to up-sell. They assured me they probably wouldn't need it anyway.
Well they do need a word processor for a document...

SO my W11 question is: can they get OnlyOffice/LibreOffice/OpenOffice or similar free program and install it? I heard MS FORBIDS the installation of non-approved MS software.

Please advise if freeware is accepted on W11--thank you guys/girls.

Libreoffice runs fine on W11
edit: I use Winget whenever possible

synth-ruiner thank you synth. I walked the wife thru the installation (libre office) on the phone, everyone is astounded they have a 'free' word-processing suite.
yes I am the only Linux in the family..🙂

murbert Libreoffice runs fine on W11

can only give one best answer so thank you for confirming this murbert.

synth-ruiner Microsoft have some very anticompetitive practices, but as far as I know they're not blocking all third-party software. I haven't really used Windows 11, though.

^^ ok so same as W10 then...I was reading they will uninstall--against your will--certain games one independently installs for some reason but when I went to look online it was gone as usual. I do remember the controversy way back when. maybe it was unlicensed stuff they were scanning for and removing.

brent MODS--was going to give Synth best answer but there was no best answer to be given-probably because it wasn't Support topic? Anyhoos: SOLVED
