Budgie global menu applet crashes session

The new version (24.02-19-1) of vala-panel-appmenu-budgie-desktop now crashes more frequently compared to the prior version.
Steps to reproduce:

Install the latest version of vala-panel-appmenu-budgie-desktop, put it in the Budgie Panel
Install and open Kolourpaint from Solus repos
Select any area of the canvas with the selection tool
Drag it around
An error will pop up saying "Oops! Something went wrong".

Just downgraded to prior version (0.7.6-18-1) and the applet seems to work smoothly, however I can't keep it downgraded for long, since eopkg lacks functionality for holding packages.

I should say that there seems to be a pattern with native QT applications in particular.

Please report this on issue tracker on github. I have seen similiar cases in matrix support room, but can't reproduce this on my VM. Cheers !

I encountered a similar problem after installing the vala-panel-appamenu and vala-panel-appmenu-budgie-desktop packages and as you suggest, I therefore created an issue on Github under number #583.

Budgie does not develop that applet. The correct place to report this issue is on the Vala Panel Appmenu tracker.

EbonJaeger I see. Someone still maintains these packages, though. Please downgrade these two packages to their previous version, as locking package versions is not possible with Solus. Because as of their current version, these packages are almost unusable and break the entire workflow, including crashing the session.

I could switch to a more traditional, Windows-like workflow, but the built-in icon task list also crashes session on a much more frequent basis.

asdhio For the Icon Tasklist problem, could you please get a backtrace, and file an issue at the Budgie Desktop issue tracker?

As for vala-panel-appmenu, a new version is going into Unstable. Hopefully that solves the issue; I haven't been able to reproduce it. If not, it really needs to be reported to them so it can get fixed.
