That's one of the first things I did. Maybe I just haven't had enough sleep. I'll set this aside for a while, and maybe try again later. Maybe I'll create a Windows VM that will let me search for some foobar2000 instructions, but not right now. There are too many other things I need to be doing instead.

qk4-li3 Well, "adding music to your library" is a concept, which just means that you tell fooyin where your music is, so you can access it via fooyin.

Yeah, that's my problem. I can list the folders and files in my Music share, but I can do nothing with them using fooyun. I'll keep it installed (for a while) and hope something changes, but for now I'll keep using Elisa when I actually want to hear something.

Ok, I made some subjective observations.

"Playback Follows Cursor" isn't working.
Can't save my personal layouts/settings to a recallable file.
Can't change ui colours and font sizes and colours.
Can't change playback control buttons, button icons or sizes.
No "A-B loop" for a section of a song.
No slower/faster playback rate or other DSP tools available.
No midi player/synthesizer or soundfonts or other soundbanks what so ever.
No SID player.
Crashed
Often when Play is pressed, playback is on, visually at seekbar, but no sound is coming out of speakers.
Some sound stuttering or missing sound at the beginning, immediately after pressing play.
Enough

Numbers 10. and 11. could be due to pipewire/linux- audio general issues and/or the fact that I had Easy Effects (DSP for linux desktop) active. Though nothing heavy on Easy Effects, just autogain @Output.

Thanks for the list of observations. fooyin was first released publicly at the beginning of this year, so there's a lot of work still to do. I'll address your points below:

In the playlist? I'll look into it.
Layouts can be exported and imported in Settings->Interface
Colours and font can be changed on a per-widget basis in settings for most. Changing playlist fonts/colours requires use of tags like <size=12> in Settings->Playlist->Presets. This will be part of the initial documentation which will be released soon. I'll think about a global setting too.
Size can be changed by enabling stretch in Settings->Interface->Tool Buttons. They will now grow/shrink with the splitter size.
I'll think about adding it to the roadmap, but it's not a priority.
DSP chains will be implemented later, once the core features are done.

During playback? Several crashes have been resolved in that regard (especially PipeWire).
I also use Easy Effects and it's unlikely due to that. What format are the affected files?

Sounds like fooyin is a work in progress. Have you ever tried Elisa? It's in the repository, and works a treat. It may not have fooyin's list of features, but the many features it does have actually work.

ludouzi Well, thank you for taking time to comment. I'm very happy if I can provide any help with my ramblings. Yes, I thought this must be quite young project still.
Anyhow, I felt the need to comment. I use the list:

Yes. For example, 1st song on the playlist is playing. I place cursor at 3rd song. 1st song ends. 2nd song starts playing, although I'd expect 3rd song.
I exported and imported my layout successfully now. It works. Great!
Only widget colour that I managed to change was font colour of Library Tree. And only font colour, not backround colour. Oh, now I realized, plugins are also "widgets" (?).
Many people, like me, have a faint idea what Tags are and how they are used, so documentation is greatly needed indeed.
Fast choice of overall, global colour scheme, would be good idea. Blue backround with alternating row colours (or shades, more appropriately, I think), and white (or grey or yellow) font is what I'm after.
Okay, I got it now. I managed to get those buttons bigger which is already very good and practical.
and 6. A-B loop (hopefully combined with DSP,slower/faster playback rate) Yes, pretty please.
Let me clarify why I think this is not just some vanity feature, but very powerful tool: Musicians; Musicians would use that feature all the time, studying and learning what is played in some difficult part of a song/composition. Be it fast guitar solo, blurry lyrics or crazy drum fill etc. More practical, than carefully pressing finger on vinyl record to slow it down, which is what musicians used to do. Of course 2024 there are professional tools for this (REAPER, for example), but this feature would make this player truly Musician's Music Player.

Has happened once and I can not remember what I was doing and was or wasn't music playing.
I didn't pay attention what the file formats were. There's stutter often, not always at beginning of playback. There's also sometimes total silence during playback, until I press stop and try again. I've got (mostly) mp3, wav and flac files, at least during this test.

WetGeek Yes, thats true, work in progress, but I'll keep it in my machine and see how it goes.
Despite it's flaws at this stage of development, I already have been able to customize fooyin very much to my liking. I see great potential there. I remain curious about it.
I think I haven't even heard about Elisa before this thread. Thanks for suggestion, I might give it a go at some point. I've been using VLC long time now as a generic media player. It works and it has huge technical capabilities for all sorts of things, you can find even A-B loop there, but it's not really built for playing one's music collection, GUI- wise.

Open fooyin and go to View > Layout and choose a layout.
If you are unhappy with your options then go to View and check Layout Editing Mode.
Now you can make changes. Layout elements are containers which you can add/move/remove/modify by right clicking inside them.
When you are done making changes go to View and check Layout Editing Mode off.

But really if you like Elisa then you might as well stick with it. Some of us don't. I was dying for a real-time library mode and I relish this level of customization.
