Solarmass I don't care about Winamp, is dead for me for years ⚰️
don't forget the virus-plagued RealPlayer and mediocre QuickTime...a lot of hot garbage 'in the day'. Did like winamp tho.
BruceElephant It's true that Winamp will go open source but has anyone read about the conditions under which this will happen? I admit that I haven't but there were some voices on the Linux Reddit which were saying that the company is only doing this so they can get developers working for free for the app. It might be open source but it might not be allowed to be cloned. Even if they were wrong, even if I did not understand what is happening, it will be a long way off until we see Winamp on Linux.
I really haven't read about it beyond Winamp's official announcement (link above).
There was a time I did adore overblown things like Strawberry---it's lovely. It's so many shiny bells and whistles and that is what I was attracted as a linux noob....but now the minimal Museeks because I gotta tell you it's refreshing not to deal with all that fetching of metadata and pictures.
I became very skeptical over time of who the 'picture-keepers' are and who the metadata curators are. Having something fetch a bunch of crap from god knows where and upload it into Solus seemed very reckless in hindsight.
But I will save my weird concerns for my own thread, not yours!
Will report back and vote when I crack that tarball and kick the tires🙂
