brent Hmmm, I only test it on a VM. But I can only reproduce this issue if "Materia-light" theme selcted with both "Dark Style" and "Built-in" are toggled on. Sometimes gedit needs to be closed than opened again to respect theme change (nemo too). So it is a bit inconsistent. I couldn't tell you if it was like this before update or not, as I only use Budgie to test things. Cheers !

No it's still FUBAR'D. Thanks for responding, though. This was corroborated by one other forum user so I don't feel that crazy. Still sucks and it's ugly, though.

bit disappointed that papirus wasnt updated to the latest version as its supposed to fix some plasma issues im having, then again the changelog indicates the changes could cause issues with other DE's, but its not clear if this means just plasma5 or also other DE's, as far as i can tell

On my older Sony laptop the update via gui chrashed (was hanging at ₁₆%). After closing the gui, eopkg CLI failed with error ImportError: failed to find libmagic. Check your installation.
Luckily, after reboot I could complete the upgrade via CLI eopkg up.

brent Apparently from the link Alfisya posted looks like that may be added at some point.
New features:

Experimental: add light/dark GTK theme variant configuration (as a hidden
GSettings key for now).
I looked at some other simple editors didnt like them.
I think the lang thing is a big issue tho for any software now days.
Knowing none of this was Solus fault.

I haven't noticed any problems switching from a dark theme to a light theme in gedit (I use Budgie desktop with a Qogir-Dark theme), but I can understand the excitement caused by this unexpected change.

The same goes for the English imposed with no possibility of changing, another disappointing finding for which Solus is clearly not to blame.

Let's hope that's all temporary (fingers crossed!) 😉

...which makes me think your language thing will go away-here's the text:
"Removed features:

Localization (l10n): all the translations are disabled, gedit is available in
English only because some underlying modules are not on l10n.gnome.org or
equivalent."

I have no idea how serious this "I10n" situation is. I can't imagine they'd leave you hanging too long. hang in there.

With the recent Solus issues I just did package check to see if things where ok they where.
But reminded me about this ongoing error must be couple hundred errors in red anything to do with paper
doesnt seem to cause issues for me.

Missing file: /usr/share/icons/Paper/scalable/actions/appointment-new-symbolic.svg

Is this proper I have no idea when it appeared but use to not be there.

Harvey weird question: all I had in the update was ffmpeg-chromium-opera which, according to eopkg, I dragged in as a dep to Vivaldi-stable when I tried it. I Eventually I removedvivaldi-stable.

here's the weird question: how come the dep package was never removed with eopkg rmo wich I religiously run every couple weeks?
it depends on glibc but has no reverse deps. so safe to remove? or is solus utilizing this package somehow?

brent ffmpeg-chromium-opera is a dependency of opera-stable, as the name suggests. If you don't use that app then it's safe to remove. Not sure why it wouldn't be removed by eopkg rmo. Maybe you manually (re-)installed it at some point?
