immutability of Solus OS

Hi everyone,
I'm interested in learning more about Solus' transition to an immutable system. While I understand the benefits of immutability, I was wondering if the developers are considering offering a mutable option alongside the immutable system.
For some users including me, the ability to directly modify system files is important. I'd be interested in hearing the community's thoughts on this as well.

💯 ^^. It took me years to know the value of tweaking your own config/conf files. I also would hate to lose that and acquiesce these freedoms to flatpak.

Having said that app file configs you will be giving up. system files in/root will be true system files you can edit with sudo...system files won't be flatpaks they will not be immutable. only apps.

that's my understanding anyway..

brent what about the package manager and solus repositories? Will they still have an importance for immutable Solus ?

farhatizakaria don't know. but I do know I have to brush up on all that fine reading that @alfisya furnished us.. Like you, way back when, I remembered few details about the immutable part.

AFAIK, immutability is not the focus for Serpent right now. But ensuring that transaction on package manager handled atomically. You can read more on their website, especially the blog section. Also follow along the conversations on matrix. Cheers !
