How to update Minecraft?

Greetings lovely people!

I know Minecraft isn't in the repos, but is available to install via this handy guide provided from Solus's own website Minecraft - Solus Help Center

For the Minecraft launcher, I noticed there is an update to the launcher, but I'm not entirely sure how to go about updating. Should I just redo the process I did from the above link or do I have to do a different set of terminal commands? Any help would be much appreciated!

While my (old) instructions work and are great I've moved over to a snap recently created by a community member called mc-insatller. You can install it from the command line: sudo snap insatll mc-installer and as snaps are updated automatically you'll get the newer version quite quickly.

Otherwise if you don't like snaps (I know some don't) you can remove the existing Minecraft directory and then re-run some of the steps:

sudo rm -rf /opt/minecraft
sudo mkdir -p /opt/minecraft
sudo wget https://launcher.mojang.com/download/Minecraft.tar.gz -O /opt/minecraft/Minecraft.tar.gz
sudo tar xvf /opt/minecraft/Minecraft.tar.gz --strip=1 -C /opt/minecraft/
sudo rm /opt/minecraft/Minecraft.tar.gz
