  • why does Nemo not AUTOMATICALLY open a new window when i plugin an usb?

brent
thanks brent!
it is strange: i had MANJARO-Mate with CAJA before, and there CAJA always opened the new window automatically when i pluged in the usb.

so now it's what plugin did Caja (nemo) have in Manjaro that is not in Solus?

Launching an automatic file window for a plugged in peripheral (usb) has to be such an easy thing so solve....or a system window setting...

Solus doesn't auto-mount usb drives by default, that behaviour has been used long time ago since nautilus was shipped in solus. Probably is that.

nolan so some kind of startupmount script may be the only option?

brent probably not necessarily but it could be done that way, haven't tried.

i had a look at the dconf settings today.
it took me several hours, but i did not see anything particular that would set Nemo to automatically open a new window when plugging in an usb-stick.

then i thought: maybe this could rather be a setting SYSTEMD.AUTOMOUNT or whatever with a command line in a terminal ?

but thats maybe more a question for the developers of solus.

BTO i thought: maybe this could rather be a setting

I'm most familiar with how this works in Plasma, as that's what most of the computers here use. When a USB drive is inserted, a notification arrives announcing that fact, and asks the user if he wants to mount it. So the user has the option to ignore it, or to launch Dolphin with that device mounted and accessible. Maybe something like that would work for Budgie, too?

I think @BTO is right--what Dolphin does is probably activated by a service.

much better sleuthing than mine. to stick a usb stick into a port, then have a file manager window launch very much sounds like like a setting or service i.e. something that can be activated. I agree.

Thats why I added the places widget in the panel makes it alittle easier. (On Budgie)

          BTO,

This may be of some help, settings in Budgie Control Centre
