codewizard1975 I had issues with right click menus being black, games not closing cleanly and having to be killed, performance issues in games, desktop just felt.... weird too, hard to describe it, but it was noticeably "different" and not in a "gee whiz this is awesome" sort of way.

I think for me personally, until wine/proton is working native in it without xwayland... It's going to be a pass.

2 months later

Using Budgie for several Years i decided to try Plasma.

Mainly because of 2.5 minor issues Budgie has :
• Requires toggling DesktopIcons everytime
• Krusader cannot edit Bookmarks due to some missing and unavailable KDE Deps
• Occasional Freeze/Crash with only Remedy a forced Reboot

Now in Plasma, first Thing You see are severe graphical Glitches on the LogIn Screen

Moving on, it is relatively stable apart from occasional Unresponsiveness.
Yet now over 2 Days it managed to FUBAR itself FIVE Times :
Twice, the Desktop turned Black with no Panels. Only Thing left is kRunner
Twice, the ApplicationsMenu has vacated itself, only leaving the Power/Session Options
Once, a previously working Installation boots to Black with just a Cursor. No F-KeyCombos respond

Interestingly running from LiveUsb is far more stable than Installations to Disk

Lessons learned :
• Never ever click something like "Get new Themes"
(Not worth the Risk, better avoid theming totally)
• Disable LoginScreen (another Troublemagnet)
• Do NOT use Settings while Sync is ongoing
• Backup Daily (until it is proven reliable)
• Reboot after Sync

Takeaway :
Why is this not labeled as Beta ?
Why are those severe Pitfalls not mentioned as better avoided ?

I'm really sorry you're having these problems, and I hope someone from the team will recognize them and help you. I can only say that I've used Solus Plasma for years, and never seen anything of the sort, including with Plasma 6. These issues don't sound typical, so don't give up on Plasma. It's the finest edition Solus offers.

emmgee Sounds like a lot of those issues might be consequences of the big Plasma 5 -> Plasma 6 transition. I've seen people report that it even required several reboots after that big upgrade until everything was working correctly.

    emmgee Requires toggling DesktopIcons everytime

Can you expand on what you mean here? This doesn't sound like any issue I'm aware of.

Krusader cannot edit Bookmarks due to some missing and unavailable KDE Deps

That doesn't seem like a Budgie issue. More of a "We don't have a keditbookmarks package" issue.

I agree with wetgeek this is not typical of solus but if you dont tell us the specs of computer its hard
      to have a starting point.

        Axios

Still using this old but reliable Gen1 i7 .. Rarely lets me down

        Staudey
        Never mind the BudgieBugs.
That Installation is Two Years old, but on latest Sync and still pretty reliable.
The DesktopIcons Thingie is related to the ancient MouseFocus Bug

I just would have really appreciated a HeadsUp about the PlasmaBugs. Or a List of TTY Tricks to help recover.
This latest Installation is only 3 Hours young, and i am already getting nervous about the overdue Backup

And regarding kEditBookmarks .. it is missing on Plasma also.
I don't mind it being unavailable on Budgie, but a KdeBaseApp missing on a PlasmaDistro .. Come On

Plasma already nearly got me again.
There was a momentary BlackScreen (2-3s),
and i went "No Way, i didn't do anything"

Crisis averted .. got a Backup anyway

Update - That did not last long ..
FUBARed again and restored for the 6th Iteration.
          Bad WidgetTheme got me again

gotta agree with the smart responders above: your experience is not representative of anyone's (that I have ever read) re: The Plasma Experience.
          Go back to Budgie.
Read about Plasma in the meantime and re-approach it in the future with a different mindset. Second time after a disaster usually works for me.
          2 cents

            brent
            Nah, i got this.
            Learning by crashing also works

While i am ironing out the Kinks, temporary Install is on a 16GB SSD, so restoring is quick

emmgee Learning by crashing also works

my preferred method as well 🙂

You should try a couple reboots, and maybe a sudo usysconf run -f, when you encounter issues after the initial update (which includes the Plasma 5 -> 6 transition), as I've mentioned above. Otherwise you might be resetting your system forever.

emmgee And regarding kEditBookmarks .. it is missing on Plasma also.
I don't mind it being unavailable on Budgie, but a KdeBaseApp missing on a PlasmaDistro .. Come On

Yes, all the Solus editions use the same repository. That's what I meant by that package not being available. Is it a "KdeBaseApp" though? I'm not too familiar with the ecosystem. It certainly severely impacts the functionality of krusader, that much is certain. Could you perhaps create a bug report / package request on the Solus issue tracker?

Same for that mouse focus / workspace switching bug, but on the Budgie bug tracker (if it wasn't already reported, since it's ancient; but I don't see any mention of a bug report in that forum thread)
