Update: I updated my desktop to it.

The good news: I can open applications like konsole and vscode that I can use to continue to add fixes to the packages.

The bad news: there are a LOT of KDE Gear applications to go and it turns out that Plasma 6 needs them for a bunch of functionality.

is there still a policy to wait for the .1 realease, or is the intention to go plasma 6 as soon as you can after its released?

We're most likely going to wait until the .2 or .3 release. This is a major overhaul of Plasma and there will be bugs. We'll also likely do a double week sync in unstable to iron out as many issues as we can.

The Plasma 6 release is at the end of February, personally I wouldn't expect it to land in stable until early April.

ReillyBrogan This is exactly why I love Solus. Wait until something is actually ready before rolling it out. This is a perfect example of why independent rocks.

    it's raw

ReillyBrogan I'm itching for Plasma 6 now. I could have lived my life fine with waiting for regular updates, but no, now that I've seen this I'm condemned to disatisfaction with my Plasma 5...

      Harvey WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEN?????

      It's so beautiful.

It might be fun to test in unstable just to get hands on. Do we have docs for rolling back from unstable to stable for something like Plasma?

Bhibb you can't roll back from Plasma 6 to Plasma 5. The migration scripts are one-way. You'd probably need to delete all of the Plasma config and state folders in order to downgrade successfully, or create a new user account altogether.

@Bhibb I agree, it looks great. Even running on my new UW monitor at 5120x1440.

@ReillyBrogan Is the bottom panel's width predefined when installing a fresh Solus Plasma? I'm asking cause the live CD and after first install, the bottom panel was not full width.

Quick question for those testing..... Are you using Wayland or X? Most of what I'm seeing on Reddit is for distros that upgraded Plasma and changed the default session from X to Wayland without notifying users and then things are.... broken. Typically they just log out, go back to X, and then everything works fine.

Also are we going to use Wayland as default? Need to know so I can be ready to support the friends and family I have that are all using Plasma. Wayland's not quite ready for primetime, at least not for gaming and some other tasks, so I want to make sure I'm way ahead of it.

@zmaint I personally have found Wayland to be more solid on my Radeon RX 6600 with really no issues. My Intel Arc A750 is a mess right now on Wayland, not always waking on sleep and not as good of performance for many things. Don't have an Nvidia card so can't speak on those on Wayland.

I use Wayland on an AMD GPU as well as on a separate machine with an Intel iGPU. Both are fine IMO.

But I'd note that we're NOT changing the default session to Wayland yet, the default remains X11. We'll re-evaluate that default change in the future.

I feel wayland gets better with time. I do not have problems, except some appimages who don't start.
I have a 2017 HP laptop with AMD cpu & gpu.
