elusian That's against the spec, but you probably can use another efi partition now by assigning it as /boot.

I doubt that was against the spec, otherwise it'd be impossible to boot from an USB drive.
What's probably against the spec is having more than one in a single drive.
The old installer did not accept more than one EFI partition globally, not just one per drive.
Back when I installed I had to delete the boot partition of another OS that was in a secondary drive otherwise Solus would fail to detect the right one.

I am really impressed how polished XFCE-Edition looks. And that seems to be the general perception.

elusian Sorry, I misinterpreted that you asked about having multiple EFI partitions on one drive. My guess is that the Calamares installer can create an additional EFI partition for the drive of your choice. If it still defaults to an existing one, you can create one by manually partitioning and assigning the partition as /boot.

I'm a new user having seen this on a Linux news site, been on Xubuntu and going to give this a try with a dual boot on the Budgie version - seems pretty snappy on my 10-year old laptop so looking good so far!

Hi I have installed the XFCE edition on my Dell 3162, this machine only has 2GB of RAM, initially I was unable to continue past the initial Calamares installer screen due to Calamares reporting that there was insufficient RAM.

I found that I had to alter the RAM requirement in the calamares/modules/welcome_online.conf file to 1GB before I launched the installer.

After altering this file the install completed successfully.

Another observation is that after installation, Tap to Click is missing in the Mouse and Touchpad settings section in system settings. This can be corrected by installing this package xorg-driver-input-synaptics and the rebooting, then the tab became available in the setting for Mouse and Touchpad, this was kindly pointed out by @[deleted] here https://discuss.getsol.us/d/10164-tap-to-click-in-xfce/4

Other than this I am loving the new XFCE ISO

That sounds like my little Acer Travelmate. It's the only computer I have that's not a DELL. If has 2 GB of RAM and a 2-core Celeron processor. While I was working with Xfce mostly on a bigger Latitude, I was curious to see how it would work on that somewhat restricted laptop.

The answer is, it runs it like it was made for that machine. I never have been a fan of touchpads, and touchscreens, both of which the Travelmate has, but instead prefer using a mouse. Thus, I didn't run into the issue you noticed, but it's nice to hear of someone else who's using Xfce on a computer that's not a powerhouse. And it's great that you've found a solution for those who do like a touchpad.

Yeah this thing is Celeron also, however, with this Solus version of XFCE as you say it is like it is made for it.
Now that I have these little niggles sorted out I will be sticking with XFCE on here and the old Sony VAIO that I have.

I installed the XFCE Desktop version on a virtual machine to get an idea of it.
And I must say that I join the general consensus which enthusiastically welcomes this new version of Solus: lightness, elegance and fluidity are there (even if I'm sticking with Budgie (for the time being)) and that's quite a performance, especially for a version labelled Beta.
What I also wanted to say is that I enjoyed the quality of the dark theme chosen for XFCE: Qogir-Dark.
I was a moderate fan of the dark themes, as some were so deep black that they could make it hard to read a computer screen after a while.
Nothing like that here: the rendering is very clear and the black color of the screen is judiciously dosed to allow prolonged reading without fatigue. So, I've adopted this Budgie theme for the Widget and Icons sections of the Budgie settings.

I agree with everything you say about Solus Xfce. I'll just be glad the Qogir-Dark theme will affect Vivaldi. That's the application where I spend most of my online time, so it's a significant issue for me.

penny-farthing besides Qogir we have more good selections of NOT SO blacks. Remember Solus's dark Plata days where you couldn't tell one window from the other🙂. Pocillo Dark is nice, so is Arc and Materia--lotsa variations--all Qogir-like in shade but their own themes.
All those would fit in nicely with the sentiments in your post.

agreed. I'm spending the afternoon with xfce today while Dallas destroys the Packers and the Lions bounce the lousy Rams.

I have been a Vivaldi user for years now and have never seen any issues with dark or light themes affecting it.

Funnily enough the Qogir theme has been my go to since I discovered it, I also use the Qogir dark theme which you can get from themes.vivaldi.net it only really changes background and highlight colours

So have I, on every computer here (even the Windows machine that streams to our TV). I even have an email address, wetgeek@vivaldi.net. But I wasn't aware of themes.vivaldi.net until you mentioned it. I use the dark theme from the Vivaldi settings, but it makes sense to use the Qogir dark theme instead. And I'm betting I'm not the only Vivaldi user here who didn't know that it exists. Thanks for calling that to our attention.

I use zukitwo-dark from repo has black and grey but the black is not deep.
If your gamma is not proper it can really mess with dark themes and blend it all together making
it look like a big dark blob. (Sometimes it does not take much adj)
I use xgamma-gui-master (But it appears not to be around anymore) because it installed an autostart
anyhows many ways of adjusting it.

Okay, that is interesting info. I will check the mentioned dark themes and gamma setttings.
Usually I turn all dark seems off and switch to light mode because most of the time I have serious troubles with dark themes. It's just one black wall and I can't determine where one window ends and the other starts.

Sebastian Some those themes are not two-tone and I am like you why they made them that way dont
know but with a darker two-tone and gamma adjust you make them look good.
gamma might do some good on total black but I havent had much luck with them
