How to add new font to SOLUS Budgie?

How can I add another font to my system?
I'm talking about a font with the .otf format - is that possible?
If so: To which folder do I add the extracted font files?

All users, place in /usr/share/fonts/, for just your user ~/.fonts/ (may need to create this directory. Then I believe run sudo fc-cache -f -v.

Great, thank you.
That folder already exists as I added some fonts before, I just couldn't remember how I did it back then.
Do I add the unzipped folder containing the files or the actual files from that folder?

Just want to add that TrueType fonts ( *.ttf ) should be placed in
/usr/share/fonts/truetype/

_{/.local/share/fonts} also seems to work for those who prefer to have less stuff directly in ~ 🙂

As I'm the only user of my laptop I shall put it all in _/ .fonts/.

Yes, the .ttf or .otf files are all you need. You can put them in a subfolder if you want.

when I open a .ttf in Font Manager I get the option to install it, if that helps. it's available in the repos but not installed by default, I think.

@Justin Hi. By the way, when I try to install the "Noto Sans Javanese" font in the location /usr/share/fonts/truetype/, what I get is an error message like this "/usr/share/fonts/truetype/noto-sans-javanese: skipping , looped directory detected" so what can I understand and do I fix the problem? ️

Reno-Sifana There is a noto-sans-ttf-2.7 but no noto-sans-javanese in the SC. 😄

Reno-Sifana Best way to install other fonts is to use font-manager.
It will install fonts in ~/.local/share/fonts. Don't do mess with system files.

algent Yes. I have also followed the suggestion in the next post here https://discuss.getsol.us/d/4061-how-to-install-fonts/2 other members also suggested installing the font-manager to make it easier to install new fonts. By the way, I use an operating system, especially Linux, to be careful. lazy to deal with the system in a mess that requires reinstalling. Because when reinstalling it takes up to half a day (Including installing third-party programs, checking for updates, upgrading all packages and others).

Just move the .ttf file to your home directory and reload Budgie. ~/.fonts
