  • Protonmail Bridge from our repos 'cannot connect to Go backend'

Hey all, I'm seeing the above error when I try to launch Protonmail-bridge from our repos. I'm in KDE Plasma's Wayland session, and all has been working well until about two sync's ago. I should have reported it in the sync thread, but I just needed my email and used another device. It says it 'cannot connect to Go backend via gRPC: Connection to the gRPC server failed because of a timeout.'

Anyone have any ideas how I can solve this timeout?

Thank you!

  • This should be fixed now. I updated it as well and heavily modified the packaging. I don't have an account for actual testing so is possible it doesn't work but I did confirm that it started up and connected to the bridge process (which is the part that was failing). Please post here if other functionality is broken and I'll fix it asap.

I have not tried the flatpak. I'll give that a shot and see if it works. Still, something in our repo should work 🙁

The flatpak works perfectly, though I had to change the ports because the repo version had taken the default ports. I have a workaround, but the repo version wasn't working 🙁

I have noticed alot going on in repo especially updateing programs and whatever else
it got updated not to far back.
    Its all good.

Sorry to hear you're having difficulty with Protonmail-bridge. Please create a Bug issue on our tracker so the developers can take a look. Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

I've managed to fix this issue locally, it was caused by a behavioral change in Qt 6.6.1. Qt changed how they load the OpenSSL providers which requires a corresponding change to the Protonmail GUI. I'll get the fix merged into unstable tomorrow and the fixed version will be in the next sync.

ReillyBrogan You've done it! The protonmail-bridge app in our repo now works perfectly as it used to. Thank you for restoring this application. I prefer to use the one in our repo over the flatpak version, and I'm so thankful to have devs watching the forums for fixes like this.

          Happy holidays!
