I'm relatively new to Linux, in general, but have been using Solus Matte for some time and just switched to Solus Plasma (4.4) recently. I've installed Solus on an Asus E200HA notebook that has an Intel Atom x5-Z8350 processor and 32GB eMMC storage. Following the installation, I always add Google Chrome and Zoom, and remove Firefox. I'm mainly using the notebook as a netbook, so I'm not storing files on the eMMC drive. I supplement storage with a 64GB microSD card that is mounted by the OS as a separate storage device. I had previously tried Google ChromeOS Flex on the notebook but the audio does not function with that OS. I've found Solus to be the best OS for renewing this device. That said, when installing Matte or Plasma I tend to have about 13-14 GB of storage remaining. With Matte, I noticed that I was losing about 1-2 GB of free space each week, or so. When my storage gets to 3GB I try to clear out old repositories but it doesn't seem to help. Should I be clearing out the old kernels as well? Is there a cache I should be clearing out? Any suggestions to free up space on the eMMC would be appreciated.
Storage Use Creep
I tried those commands and then compared the "before" with the "after". One megabyte removed. I am guessing that the Solus Software Centre does a pretty good job of cleaning up after itself when updating or installing software.
I don't know what you use your notebook for but it could just be dross from your internet habits that are filling up your drive. If you are streaming media there could be cache files building up and filling the already quite small drive. Running torrent programs can also fill your drive quickly if you do not exercise restraint on what you click on.
Although it is not a software I use myself BleachBit is in the repository and provides an inventory of where the space hogs are before you click clean.
Good luck.
also sudo eopkg rmo
.
also vaccuumingjournalctl
will get rid of GB's of logs.
delete temp files thru settings GUI (in budgie)
the kernel question is valid but I think solus does that every kernel upgrade
there should be no creeping to the tune of GBs like you are saying--free space should stay pretty consistent... @BuzzPCSOS did ask if you were downloading/torrenting which would fill space fast.
there was another post about disappearing space and I had this twice way back when and it turned out to be a rogue indexer but I get the strange ones..
If you're comfortable on the command line, you could use a tool like ncdu
to see where your big directories are

lutherl I use bleachbit with linux and on my lenovo 32g machine
Only stuff that piles up is what I download.
Bleachbit can break linux (I have done it) but if you are careful on what your deleting and dont try
to dig deep its a very reliable and safe program.
Note and with SSD dont use the the shred or overwrite features.
And if use software center stuff will be deleted in terminal it will not and you will have to manual delete it.
