Axios I know I am not chasing around the net making needless accounts
Did have couple places I read on twitter accounts but oh well
was thinking of having a twitter account but think that on the back burner now
I will stick with the forum here and If we ever have another episode Prob be done.

My only regret in this world is creating the one-time only accounts (to send something, pay someting, civic reasons, job apps, etc) which is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too many useless user names and passwords out there. Backtracking and nuking is my next big project online. I am ashamed for all of them but the way of the internets these days sadly....the forum is the only place for info imho but like you said:
"I will stick with the forum here and If we ever have another episode Prob be done."---
me too. it became unsafe and that was weird. weird enough to have a #2 right now.

For me the main annoyances is when I go to a website and they have a link to something on twitter that I can't read. No description, no embedding blah blah.

murbert I like the premise behind Mastodon and the Fediverse. But it's not exactly welcoming to newcomers.

D-Smithee I haven't had the same experience, but this is to be expected. Different people, different experiences. I joined at a time when mastodon.social was not accepting new users, so I chose a different server. It was welcoming and enjoyable, but overall just not for me. I switched to a different server and took my social graph with me and all is fine. May still move servers again as this one happens to be primarily Portuguese, but I use the following and federated timelines mostly, don't use to much of the "home" timeline.

D-Smithee He hasn't restored anything but anarchy.

Your experience and mine seem to be very different, but I'm afraid if we keep going with this it'll end up getting political pretty fast, and that would only degrade our forum. So I'm going to bail out of this thread now, and hope to catch up with you elsewhere. Cheers!

UPDATE: thank you Jah [your politically correct deity here]! Mercy! I'm not Institution crazy yet.
NO ACCOUNT? THEN NO VIEWING ANYTHING:
      https://mashable.com/article/twitter-force-visitors-login-view-tweets-profiles

"Twitter has now begun locking visitors out of the platform unless they're logged into their account. Visiting any Twitter page other than the homepage without being signed in will automatically forward users to a page where they can login or set up an account on the platform. Visitors cannot view any user content without logging in.

The unexpected move from Twitter started rolling out on Friday. There has yet to be any official announcement from the company. Users started to discover(opens in a new tab) the change themselves when attempting to view tweets or profiles while not logged into their account."

I don't want a stupid account I just like to read. Their loss.

edit/Institution always vexes me plus bolds are my editorial thingy

brent I don't want a stupid account I just like to read. Their loss.

Yeah, That'll probably put them right out of business.

WetGeek my intention is not to put them out of business. On the contrary, I'd like to see him turn a profit.

But I don't back down on my statement at all. His loss. "I am large. I contain multitudes" (walt whitman).

          Look at it this way.
If Solus Forum turned into "members only no readers allowed" then many open and free Solus Forums would open.
If Youtube turned into ""members only no music listeners allowed" than free and open music platforms would sink youtube into a footnote of history.
Newspapers around the country are demanding paywall $$ to read their Approved Narratives and they are hemmoraghing readers and money while citizen journalism is burgeoning.

Musk is playing some kind of Long Game but I don't know what it is nor do I have another minute to think it through. Space X turning a profit? Check. Tesla turning a profit? Check. Twitter appearing to go down in flames? Check.

          edit/no edit. i thought I would. but I didn't

brent On the contrary, I'd like to see him turn a profit.

I was indulging in a little bit of sarcasm, I confess. When I rejoined Twitter during the Solus Troubles, someone told me after the fact that I could read tweets from the Solus Project without being a member. I was amazed to learn that. I would have assumed that in order to participate, one would probably need to be a member -- especially since that's free.

So, I've been a member about 6 months or so this second time around, and so far, I don't have any regrets. I have a good many followers, considering how new my account is, and I'm following some very interesting people who share my interests. I rarely see an ad of any kind. In fact, I can't remember the last one.

I don't log on every day, and I'm in no danger of ever exceeding my daily tweet limit. I like to respond to some of the tweets I read, and some even impress me enough to retweet them, often with my own comment. I think I've made a friend or two there.

But you have your opinion, and I have mine, and nobody can say one of us is right and the other is wrong. We're just different. I've known that for a long time, and I still consider us to be friends.

WetGeek hey I know you were kidding. Its not often I can walt whitman! that's a verb, yes.
I'm not anti-anybody accounts. I do feel like the only weirdo on Planet Earth who reads the EULAs and is actually freaked out by them. No it's really ugly reading. Unsettling. So I can't abide by very many.
If they let me write my own EULA and we made that our contract, things would be much better.

Well you can sign in with your google account LOL! Double the data theft!
