  • Two features for 4.4 that would be appreciated.

4.4 is already getting a lot of really good upgrades which should push the user experience to an even higher level. Your work is very much appreciated.
Please could the team also consider these two additions to their cookbook before the ISOs get released.

  1. Would it be possible to return the shutdown feature to the hardware power button. At the moment the power button will only initiate standby. Budgie & Plasma. Not sure about Mate.

  2. Could a light theme be made available that doesn't totally mess with all the icons in programs like Libre Office. This one could be my fault, if so I would be happy if anyone could recommend a combination of settings that allow for white backgrounds with grey borders and provide icons and fonts that I can see.

Much appreciated.

This setting is configurable in the "Power" section of e.g. Budgie Control Center (and probably MATE too). Not sure about Plasma.
Or do you mean set the other behaviour as default?

Plasma does indeed support users setting this behaviour:

You probably need to change the LibreOffice settings yourself. If I remember correctly it's Tools -> Settings/Preferences -> LibreOffice -> View/Appearance -> Icon theme. Sorry for rough translation, my LO isn't in English.

Harvey Thank you for your input, I might have to make the switch to Plasma. At the moment Budgie is my preferred distro which features a very similar option panel. Setting the shutdown option in the panel does not enable the shutdown feature to the hardware power button.
This hardware issue was discussed in the forum a while back without being resolved. I ended up creating a desktop shutdown shortcut which gave me a simple one click shutdown that I wanted although at the cost of a slightly more cluttered desktop.
It would be nice to get this small bug fixed in 4.4

[deleted] Thank you for the feedback. I think I tried that route before and ended with everything in a terrible mess. This time I will have to take some screenshots before I start so I can go back to the original.
To be honest I have not had much luck with moving away from the stock colour scheme as making any changes always seems to break the display for one program or another.
It's not a biggie. The dark colour scheme is only a small irritation compared to all the excellent features that Solus provides.

BuzzPCSOS Setting the shutdown option in the panel does not enable the shutdown feature to the hardware power button.

Interesting. Setting it to "Power Off" will actually change the value of /org/gnome/settings-daemon/plugins/power/power-button-action to 'interactive' and at least on my system that means it does nothing when I press it.
Not sure if that it is a known Budgie issue.

Edit: There's an issue report for it: https://github.com/BuddiesOfBudgie/budgie-control-center/issues/59

BuzzPCSOS In the settings stalebrim mentioned you should be able to select "System" (assuming you're also using a light system theme) or "Light" for "Appearance - Mode:" and "Automatic" for "Icon Theme" to get some reasonable light default.

Staudey Thank you for confirming issues regarding the shutdown button. It would be great to see a fix in 4.4.
I guess the Celtic Magic Button might be an easy answer but I do rather like the elegance of pushing the power button and my computer just turning off. Alternatively if the issue is restricted to Budgie then it may be a good time for me to try plasma again.
Thanks also for your suggested tweaks to get a lighter system theme, I will certainly give them a try. Hopefully with better luck that before when I ended up with black fill dialogue boxes with black writing in them, it was like something out of Hotblack Desiato's spaceship.
