Spotifyd - No longer working

Does anyone know why Spotifyd is no longer working or even visible as an app? I tried removing and reinstalling the app but it seems to be gone. I initially got an error: This App is Restricted to Premium Users Only Spotify Error Code Access Point 22. I thought that was strange and I think it is an error for older versions of the app. Anyways I removed, then reinstalled and now I'm out of luck lol. Does anyone know a work around or a new Spotify app?

NickJ2911 Seems like that app wasn't updated in quite some time. I'm currently checking if an update fixes things.

NickJ2911 Old and new version are both visible for me as a device inside the main spotify client, but I can't test it further as I don't have the required Premium account.

What exactly isn't working for you? I can perform the update, but as mentioned I can't really test it in any meaningful way.

Do you mean it's not visible as a device? (because it's only a CLI app/daemon and I'm not sure what "visible as an app" would mean in that context)

Staudey Thanks for the quick response! I think that is the issue that it is an older out of date application. I meant that once I downloaded and installed spotifyd I could not find it in my application menu and when I searched for it I could not find it either, even though it was installed.

Anyways I think it all might be a moot point now. I ended up downloading the third party spotify app from the software center and that seems to be working just fine!

Have you used spotifyd before?

I have never used it but my understanding isspotifyd is not a gui application it is a daemon that runs in the background and you use another device on your network to cast to your PC. Alternatively you can use spotify-qt as a front end to it, there are other frontends but they are not available on Solus.

So spotifyd will not appear in your system menu (it has no .desktop file), only spotify-qt would and either way requires editing config files to function.

I have spotify premium so I will try look at updating it later since the maintainer does not appear to be around any more (last activity in 2021).

Tested spotifyd and spotify-qt they were working. But updated them both anyway and will be available in the next sync.

@Harvey You are correct! I think I may have mixed up spotifyd and spotify-qt. Sorry for the confusion!

brianamiles Unfortunately, it appears that Spotifyd has been officially discontinued and is no longer available for download.
