We just watched the original, in preparation for the coming sequel. In case you haven't watched it in a theater, you might want to know that it will be on Disney+ starting June7. I figure that's about three weeks from now.

As is usual, there is so much content in a movie like Avarar, it's impossible to absorb it all in one viewing. I've now seen the original four times, I think, and I feel like I'm ready to move on. Can't wait for the sequel!

WetGeek so he led that girl on for months, then came clean at the end about his disability. sounds like the plot stops dead in its tracks right there....but not in sequel world! 🙂 we shall see what happens.

I was lukewarm to the first one because of ^ what I said up there and too much CGI for my personal tastes. But it was a ride for sure.

That's something we share. I was so pleased to see that the new Avatar has her in the cast. I didn't know what to believe at the end of the first one.

Sounds like you didn't watch it enough times. At the end, Jake and Natiri were mated and consumated. Jake was transferred, courtesy of the soul tree, into his avatar body, so no more disability. And as I mentioned, Segourney apparently was likewise saved, because she's in the credits.

WetGeek if all that happened in the first one then I missed it. I remember we were at a motel north of Albuquerque. watching it and there were commericals and it all ended with the blown up trailers and stuff and still in the wheelchair. If there were commericals maybe they (whatever network) edited the coitus? [what a cool word!].
maybe I got the motel cable experience..,and charged for it no less🙂

Oh, there was a lot more. I'm guessing you missed the last hour of the movie. That's when the Na'vi clans from all over Pandora, led by Jake, defeated the human invaders in an epic battle and the company decided to cut their losses and pull out. I'm not going to say any more about it, because the first movie is also available on Disney+, and there may be folks who will want to watch both. I should have posted a spoiler alert, I guess, but after 14 years I figured anyone who hasn't seen the original probably isn't into sci-fi.

The original was great but im rather dissappointet from the sequel. Too much about the kids and what i like most in the original movie was the interaction between the humans and the Navi could have been much more.

WetGeek yeah the wheelchair-trailer bloodbath with the flying monkey-human-blue people vs the warring humans and a bunch of stuff blew up and blue-monkey-human girl finally met the disabled human man that was poisng as not one....then the credits rolled...and I got another cold one at the Rio Rancho Inn mini-fridge and it went into the stupidest movie I have ever seen in my life: Suicide Kings/ Or Squad? Yeck.
I never forget that double feature. The blue monkey human movie was interesting then a half hour of a movie with plot/writing/acting so bad that it was painful to watch. In the stomach.
Eventually I found a Seinfeld marathon and fell asleep so I could get to Santa Fe on time in the morning.

edit/but if what you said is accurate--that I missed an hour---then I wonder why the cable network went scissors-crazy with avatar? maybe to stuff it in a neat 75 minute box? rhetorical question of course. Anyway, the Seinfelds were the Master of My Domain one and then the one where Mickey and Kramer pose with diseases for med school students. That was great.

Got access to Disney+? If so, you could watch the whole 3-hour original movie before you watch the new one.

Along those lines, I believe that Disney offers a trial period, as do other streaming services, but I don't know the details. You could check with disneyplus.com for more info. If you don't want to keep it longer, you could try it for free long enough to watch both versions of Avatar, and maybe the first few seasons of Mandalorian, then cancel.

Even if it turns out that there's no free trial, Disney+ is only $7.99/month. Includes all the Avengers movies, all the Star Wars, Avatar, Harry Potter, etc., etc, When you compare that to watching one movie in a theater, it's a bargain. It's been years since I bought a bag of popcorn in a theater, but as I remember it was $4.95. It wouldn't surprise me to find out that a bag of popcorn now costs more than a month of Disney+.
