Over the weekend some friends and I got into Risk of Rain 2, a 3-D evolution of the classic roguelike. We've been having a ton of fun with it.
You (and your friends) land in your escape pods in a mysterious location full of hostile life. Working together, you must survive everything the increasingly hostile landscape can throw at you, making use of whatever items you find along the way as you attempt to find the teleporter hidden in each area and escape. Oh, and be careful about activating that teleporter - it tends to make the locals pretty angry.
As far as gameplay goes, it's a fast-paced roguelike third-person shooter. I haven't unlocked all the characters yet, but each one I have played has been a lot of fun with a unique niche. The devs have done a great job balancing things - no matter which character I select, I find that I can get it to work equally well in a group of four or solo. And the soundtrack is incredible! Lots of jazzy electric guitar. It fits very well with the chaos onscreen.
The early access trailer probably does the best job of showing off this game:
Oh, and RoR2 has great mod support using r2modman. I've been using the r2modman appimage (though I mean to package it eventually... 😅). I consider the DropItem and ItemStats mods to be just about essential. The former lets you pass items to your teammates or drop them on the ground, while the latter lets you view an item's description before picking it up.
