brent not sure how to replace default stuff like Thunar

The file manager in that picture is Dolphin -- the best one I've ever seen. It's a good replacement for Thunar, which was a big disappointment to me. Dolphin not only looks attractive, but it has no problem displaying the shares from my NAS (using the native nfs protocol), but also has no problem accessing their contents as if they were local files.

Looking through the various menus, I found Nitrogen, which is where this backgroun came from. Bunsen Lab seems to have a liking for naming things after elements, so it pays to look at menu elements themselves, instead of just their names.

And sometimes you'll need to look several layers deep. This is where I found Nitrogen. Exploring these menus is a lot of fun. It's a bit like a treasure hunt, especially when things aren't always named what you might have expected.

snowee Nobara's for sure an interesting one. I've been thinking of just adding kernel-fsync COPR to my Fedora, but so far I haven't cared so much.

Bunsen Labs "Quick Screenshot" utility seems like a perfect way to send a full-screen "Show your Solus" type of image to the forum. (Show your Bunsen?) I haven't tried it yet, but the description is pretty interesting.

Found during my current "treasure hunt" through the Bunsen Labs menu structure.

brent this is geeky old school keyboard-driven linux in many ways, on purpose

But with BL's wonderful menu system, it's a delightful journey. You were asking about themes, etc. I think this might be a good place to look around a bit:

brent not sure how to replace default stuff like Thunar (eh) and replace and still keep the superkey shortcut

I installed Dolphin and removed Thunar, and now when the main menu says "File manager," it's Dolphin that launches. I installed Vivaldi and removed Firefox, and now when the main menu says "Web browser," it's Vivaldi that it launches. No editing config files required. No modifying "default application" needed. I similarly replaced LXterminal with Konsole, and Geany with Kate as my new text editor. This is almost becoming a much improved Plasma installation, with excellent applications wherever they're needed.

BL is very thoughtful. And yes, the Superkey shortcuts now launch my replacements. No modifying needed there, either. In my VM, Super+W launches Vivaldi. Super+F launches Dolphin. I suspect some magic may have been involved in the making of Beryllium.

When you remove anything significant, don't forget to run apt autoremove afterwards, to get rid of any unnecessary dependencies. It's like eopkg rmo.

And all this goodness comes at a very low cost.

you saved me hours with these posts! it auto adds the default if you replace it....and preserves the super keys! but...what would it think if you had 2-3 browsers?
I have ben wondering what the cleaup commands are. Between apt and dpkg I don't know how to navigate/ apt autoremove for rmo is helpful.

Never noticed the Blob app either. Thanks for all the great tinkering ideas.

brent Thanks for all the great tinkering ideas.

It's my pleasure. I guess it's just the teacher still in me, after all these years.

WetGeek The mate screenshot is awful. every png is an un-uploadable 3.5MB....the budgie one was awesome always averaged 880KB. the bunsen one is great.
The app decisions for Bunsen are very interesting, solid, and well thought-out. I don't see that everywhere I hop. Not thrilled with Geany but am OK with the rest. I know you have to have your Dolphin and I'm glad its flexible for you. At the end of the day it's probably easier to navigate the landscape of Ultramarine, but as a true #2, I think I can get used to BunsenLabs.
        On to Nitrogen!
yes--all is "several layers deep" for sure

brent as a true #2, I think I can get used to BunsenLabs

Yep, that works for me, too. And I've never felt this way about any of the other non-Solus distros I've seen.

Pretty sure Beryllium will be my #2 until Bunsen comes out with Uranium, or Plutonium, or whatever's next.

WetGeek Pretty sure Beryllium will be my #2 until Bunsen comes out with Uranium, or Plutonium, or whatever's next.

It'll be called Unobtanium and available shortly after the heat death of the universe
            🤣

            murbert have you tried antiX

According to my ISOs share, not yet. Am I missing something that's not to be missed?

PSA: I just finished watching Top Gun Maverick, and I'm pretty sure it's the best movie I've ever seen. It's on Paramount+ for free now, but however you watch it, it'll be well worth it. And on Paramount+, it's followed by Mission Impossible Fallout. Two Tom Cruz epics in one day. My, oh my!

WetGeek Pretty sure Beryllium will be my #2 until Bunsen comes out with Uranium, or Plutonium, or whatever's next.

                Next would be Boron

                  WetGeek Film reviews thread next?

                    murbert have you tried antiX

I'm trying it now, but I'm not getting anywhere with the installer. Any ideas?

WetGeek you entered 'y' I presume?
Maybe the "root" parition it seeks not formatted the way antix likes it? or maybe it's labeling it/referring to it in a venacular your're not used to? (happens to me). size problem would be another guess (too small)? I've seen a permissions problem in an install so probably not that? I wonder what etc etc etc means in this context?

                        Staudey Next would be Boron

That would have made the first one Hydrogen, no? I completely missed that one.

brent you entered 'y' I presume?

N was the default (yN) so I just accepted that.

[deleted] Tom Cruise is Tom Cruise most of the time and he does it well. But one of his performances struck me as a career pinnacle--way outside his comfort zone and to me his best acting: T.J. Mackey ("Seduce and Destroy") in an unappreciated ensemble movie called Magnolia. He out-acted Philip Seymour Hoffman in the movie. That's incredibly hard to do.
