Help with WiFi on Lenovo Yoga

I am new to linux and after some reading decided I want to try to dual boot Solus on my new Lenovo Yoga. I created a live boot disc so I could be sure everything is working ... most of it is working well and I really like what I see. However, I can't seem to get my wireless to work. I get a message that says 'no adapter found'. Someone suggested I enter inxi -n into the terminal and this is the result: Intel Wireless-AC 9260 driver: iwlwifi

Any thoughts about what I am missing? (Could be a lot since I really don't know what I am doing yet.)

I would also like to know how to make my usb live boot disc persistent so I could continue to 'play' for a bit without losing what I have done before actually installing the os. But that is another topic.

Which Yoga do you have?
Did you install Solus, or just use it from the USB stick?
(If you wanna save the data on the stick you probably have to install Solus onto the USB instead of having it as a live stick...)

I have the Yoga C930. And, yes, I did just use it from the USB stick. I wanted to see how many things I could make work before I decided to install it beside Windows. So far everything works except the wireless connection. In fact, the bluetooth connected my external keyboard and mouse more easily than windows.

If I remember correctly my wifi didn't work from the USB either, but after I installed Solus on my computer it worked just fine...

As per the Linux kernel database, it should work. I would suggest trying to install and seeing if a more up-to-date kernel (install, update) would have better luck.

Did a complete install of Solus and really like it ... except that I still can't get wifi working. Message remains no adapter found.

We use the same driver here on my laptop and it works well.
Also make sure the driver module is loaded by looking with example

galago ~ $ lsmod | grep iwlwifi
iwlwifi               249856  1 iwlmvm
cfg80211              765952  3 iwlmvm,iwlwifi,mac80211

It might be kernel related, I wonder if you could try a different kernel.

Thanks for the help. I did get this result:

markwp@solus-yoga ~ $ lsmod | grep iwlwifi
iwlwifi 212992 1 iwlmvm
cfg80211 675840 3 iwlmvm,iwlwifi,mac80211

So I know the adapter is recognized but still haven't had time to find a solution. Changing kernels might help but that is a bit beyond my skill level at this point.

But basically what you want to do:

Create a file in the "/etc/modules-load" directory and give it a proper name (e.g. blacklist-ideapad-laptop.conf).
If you haven't already, update your bios driver
Write "blacklist ideapad-laptop" in the file
Reboot and see if that works 😀

Hi Ranmaero ... thanks for helping. Seems like this should be easy to do. However, as a newby I'm clearly missing something. I opened gedit as sudo and tried to save the file as you suggested but received an error that I'm not sure what to do with.

I did a little digging but really didn't find an explanation. However, I did find someone who 'resolved' the problem by entering the command "$ sudo rmmod ideapad_laptop" each time after he boots. That did indeed work and I have wireless for the first time but clearly I will eventually need to find a more satisfying solution. (Or maybe Lenovo will eventually really support Linux more responsively.)

I do appreciate the help I have found in this community and will endeavor to improve my skills so I can be more self-sufficient and, perhaps, even help others in the future.

If you try another editor like nano or vi/vim. Gedit doesn't like to be launched from the terminal if I understood correctly. Blacklisting should basically do the same for you as rmmod does 🙂

Interesting, perhaps this is due to the card's firmware, as I have bought 9260s from Fenvi and they run without any issues (my WiFi issues aside, they happen on nearly all cards, regardless of the manufacturer, probably due to power management regressions for my hardware since kernel 4.19, and they are nonexistent on Windows 10).
