Reborn OS 2022.11.13 Plasma - Observations
Yeah, I know. I said I wasn't gonna do this, but I just had to see what this distro would be like with a decent DE.
It's nearly time for me to retire for the night, but there were some things I needed to check out right away. Most important to me was finding out whether Dolphin would be able to find my NAS (using smb, of course) and allow me to access the contents of its shares. The answer turns out to be a big Hell, yeah! And just look at beautiful default dark theme.
As with the Budgie DE, Terminology was unable to resize its text, so I went back to Konsole. I created a new profile and changed the text size from 10 to 12, but that made no difference. So I changed it to 14, and that didn't make any difference, either. Eventually, after trying 16 without success, I resigned myself to sitting closer to the laptop and squinting.
I had high hopes for Dolphin, but after modifying /etc/fstab and mounting my NAS shares, they were listed in Dolphin, but I couldn't access their contents from there. This is a common occurrence during these tests, and I'm hoping that it's just a VM thing. Some day I'll find out for sure.
At least, Dolphin does locate my NAS using smb, and it allows me to access the contents of those shares (also using smb). That's not a perfect solution, but it's better than no access at all. I could live with that.
There's a lot more to explore here, but it's going to have to wait until tomorrow. Therer's much more to come.
