[suggestion] Improving dark mode readability?

Good evening,

I wanted to make a suggestion to improve the readability of the forum in dark mode. Compared to day mode, I find that the messages read and unread are difficult to distinguish. Here are 2 screenshots showing an unread message above a message read with both modes.

I find the day mode better for that

Would it be possible to change the font color for messages read in dark mode, with for example a grey or dark grey font color and/or a finer font? Or change the unread messages color?

What do you think?

I would make this suggestion upstream at Flarum so it helps all Flarum deployments.

Justin We make a bunch of customizations, including to the text color. This is something I can change on our end 🙂

Justin Yea, Dark Theme has a lot of readability issues out-of-the-box.

Yes please, unread symbols aren't exactly super visible. I go into every post (like I did on the last forum) to see if I can help.

I found this little detail on the popup of the profiles with mouse over a profile name or avatar, in dark mode, the font color is light blue on grey, which makes it almost invisible.

sangheeta Yea the problem with that is there isn't any one single good solution besides disabling their custom colors they have on hover.

For your own profile, it will be grey. For others it is the primary color found in your avatar it seems, which can vary. I can see about forcing a specific background color but it may not apply depending on how they're doing the styling (my guess is inline style attribute setting).

I do agree that readability of that is difficult, so it'll be something I'll see about correcting when I'm available to do so. I appreciate the feedback on it ❤️

I'm going to mark this as solved. I've implemented the following changes:

UserInfo badges on hover will now always be a dark background and white link text to improve readability.
Unread discussion topics and info will use a brighter white text color (#fafafa), whereas read discussion topics and info will now use a more dim color (moving from the default #aaaaaa to #808080).

Sorry, it's me again.
When we search the forum by displaying a new page for the results, the search word is displayed in black and bold in both day & night modes.

Do we need a more flashy font color?
