For two days now, I've been struggling to rebuild my laptop (which has gone well, but it's a really big job). tried to rebuild five VMs with limited success (Budgie, Plasma and Windows 10 were no problem at all), and had various things that always worked before fail completely this time. If I've annoyed anyone today with my lousy temperament, my apologies.

I've always kept four Solus VMs handy, updating them each week, but this time I was totally unable to create GNOME and MATE VMs. I spent hours trying. I finally gave up for today, because Windows 10 was starting to look very good in comparison. (The Win 10 VM built with absolutely no problems at all, and I've already used it to read a chapter in my current Nook book.)

I'm thinking my outlook tomorrow might be a bit brighter, but I'm unlikely to try to rescue those two failed VMs for a few days, at least. I need to take a break for a while. The laptop, at least, is fully healthy again, with a sparkling new installation of Solus Plasma on it. In fact, it's better than it was.

Well, Windows 10 always looks better near closing time .... 😆

    3 months later

I've just had to reinstall one of my solus VMs and had the same error regarding live user and no password ... the fix is to go to the advanced settings of virtual box where the optical drive is listed and tick the box that says Live CD. All ok after that.
