I get this error after installing gnome photos, running it and running it via the terminal:
~ $ gnome-photos
(org.gnome.Photos:3342): GLib-GIO-ERROR **: 07:40:49.084: Settings schema 'org.freedesktop.Tracker.Miner.Files' is not installed

Additionally, the icon does not even show up in the brisk menu or desktop. ( I am running MATE DE.)

Sadly, bug opened 
tracker-miners was already installed,but Photos doesn't seem to cooperate....

CorvusRuber Reporting bugs helps making the product better. It is actually sad when people don't report the problems.
But of course you should describe the problem is such a way that people who'll work on it will get the necessary info to understand & reproduce the problem (saying this because you did not provide the useful info you gave here on the bug tracker which is THE place where this info is needed)
CorvusRuber No report no fix usually. You don't have to fix the bug at all, just let someone that knows more about the product that it doesn't work.
