Solus did not work on my Nvidia system

I tried to install Solus Plasma edition as the only OS on a computer with an Nvidia GTX 1080. Although I was able to boot into the live ISO and install Solus through the installer (no errors), when trying to boot into the freshly installed system, there was no GUI. Ctrl+Alt+F4 into a shell and running startx gave me a cryptic error about not being able to start the X server. In frustration, I installed PopOS instead.

I would like to use Solus because of its rolling release model and advanced package manager (I got tired of Arch-based distros) but that's moot if I can't get it to install. I don't know if this issue is specific to the Plasma ISO or to Solus in general, but please fix it!

from the black boot screen ctrl+alt+f2 gets you into command line. From there type
sudo eopkg up -y
then reboot. I think that might work

I would give the update a shot through the TTY and see if that fixes it. There are some known issues with Nvidia cards you can find by searching the forums, but I don't think the 1080 would have issues. I've got it running on two machines with a GTX 1060, but they've been on Solus since 3.999 and are updated every week.
Once in, you can use DoFlicky to make sure you have the appropriate drivers installed or run the FOSS driver, it should work either way.
