TTOS-TDE
I spent all morning so far on this quest, but in the end failed again. The main thing that I needed to do and was able to do was to install Vivaldi and sync it. I had to work for it, though. I couldn't download the .DEB file using Konqueror, the default browser, but thankfully Firefox was also installed, and that worked. After I downloaded the .DEB file, I couldn't get it installed until I found out about KPackage, which I'd never seen before.
I could in no way coax any file manager, including the 2019 version of Dolphin, to admit that my NAS existed on the network.
I was able to change the video resolution to 1920x1080, so I could take the VM to full-screen while I worked with it. That was a big improvement over other distros with Trinity that I've worked with lately.
I suspect that I could probably use Vivaldi Mail to access that email I sent myself a while back, the one that contains the text I would need to modify bash and /fstab in order to mount my network shares. Too many times, though, that's as far as I've gotten, with file managers that still wouldn't access the network shares.
CONCLUSION:
Although I didn't take this any farther than I was able to with all the other distros with TDE (Trinity DE), in the process I learned a lot more about Trinity, so it hasn't been a total loss. Perhaps if Solus would ever replace MATE with Trinity, we'd finally see a distro with Trinity that actually works.
One site I visited (Trinity) indicated that there are Ubuntu editions that use TDE, but when I followed the link it provided, I couldn't find any Ubuntu .ISO files that indicated they did. If I could find one, I'd give this experiment one more try. I am far more optimistic about a distro from Ubuntu, especially if it's not three years old.
