Since Firefox got updated to 102 during last sync (June 28th 2022), I noticed that it becomes unresponsive sometimes when I visit certain websites (for example, Reddit). I can minimize or maximize the window, and that's it. This never happened before.

I checked this tutorial and did a few things, created a new places database, turned off hardware acceleration, but didn't help. It doesn't happen often, but it's annoying.

I noticed that next sync Firefox is going to be updated, from firefox-102.0-252-1-x86_64.eopkg to firefox-102.0-253-1-x86_64.eopkg, is it related to this issue? Or it doesn't have anything to do?

Thank you in advance

I am unable to reproduce the issue but FF is not my main browser so if it is rare I may never get it.

I highly doubt the new update will do much for you as it simply moves FF from using bundled libicu back to system libicu again and we've been using bundled since 31st May so clearly not related.

If it were me I would try deleting ~/.mozilla/ forcing it to start completely fresh. This will result in bookmarks, saved passwords, history, extensions, settings, active sessions etc being lost for FF so back it up first if that is important to you. See how it goes.

I use Firefox exclusively and so far haven't been able to reproduce that issue either. Maybe some config issue, or related to one of your installed add-ons?

Sluggish loading sometimes but no unresponsive/hanging problems; unable to reproduce.

I had the whole system go unresponsive a couple of times recently, but hard to say if it was specifically Firefox (it was open).

Speaking of, what is the equivalent to task manager?

qsl Speaking of, what is the equivalent to task manager?

I'd say in Budgie that System Monitor (gnome-system-monitor) is the closest things to task manager.
A good tool to see the resource hogs. edit: and stop them

I'm going on holidays, so I won't have access to my desktop computer for a few weeks. When I'm back, I will update it, and if I keep having this problem, I'll try this.

I'll probably take my laptop with me (also Solus), so I'll see if I have the same problem with Firefox on my laptop. So far, I had this problem only on my desktop machine.

Today, I have been browsing (Firefox, my desktop machine) on Reddit to check if anything bad happens, but everything was OK.

Staudey Maybe some config issue, or related to one of your installed add-ons?

I use Ublock Origin and Plasma Integration, but I have always used them.

I had this problem with Firefox, but not with Brave, for example.

          It depends on your desktop:

Budgie and Gnome: Gnome System Monitor (as brent said)
          MATE: MATE System Monitor
KDE Plasma: Plasma System Monitor, and Ksysguard

Thank you everybody who tried to help me. I will update this thread.

Can confirm that Firefox freezes all the time after last update on Jul 1, on Budgie.

Staudey I use Firefox exclusively and so far haven't been able to reproduce that issue either.

Sorry, I missed this part. I have this problem on my desktop, but so far not on my laptop.

            Desktop
            Intel Pentium G4400
            Nvidia GeForce GT 710

            Laptop
            Asus Vivobook
            CPU AMD Ryzen 5 3500U
            GPU AMD Radeon Vega 8

What CPU and GPU are you using?

elfprince Can confirm that Firefox freezes all the time after last update on Jul 1, on Budgie.

Not glad to read that. In my case, Firefox doesn't freeze constantly, it works normally and after using it for half an hour, it freezes.

Confirmed, Firefox freezes for me too! Has done it a few times when scrolling down a page and then it locks and becomes unresponsive, but I can move the mouse pointer to shut down Firefox and after that it appears to behave normally again. Never had the problem before last update.

Seconds ago. Completely crashed on me, quit, disappeared, and when I reopened it it did not save my page tabs like always. (Only 3 tabs open; no video). While I cannot replicate this thread or elfprince 's thread, I am accumulating some post-update Firefox peculiarities of my own.

My Firefox crashed too but on VirtualBox, problem with Firefox not only on Solus OS, on Parrot OS (Debian) problem too

I switched to Brave, and I am not looking back. Brave has a nice feature of being able to pin my site icons to the left side panel, so the number of my open tabs can be minimized.

elfprince Firefox will work itself out eventually, likely. Like Firefox, Brave is a little leaky OOTB and will need some tweaking. I found their (Brave's) security settings top notch and plentiful and I had that thing dialed in tight like FF. Like all chrome knockoffs they dont really delete all cookies after shutting down (even if you instructed it to), like firefox does, so you may have to manually houseclean on occasion, but I didn't find it a big deal.
                Good luck.

I have no access to my desktop so I can't check it. I'm writing this from my laptop, and so far, Firefox has not frozen a single time. Perhaps it has something to do with the CPU...

                Brave rocks.

joluveba This is a result of the Firefox update 2 weeks ago, and has nothing to do with Budgie, Solus or my PC. Other people reported similar freezing at the same time. I appreciate your help though. :-)

Admins, this thread can be closed now. Thanks!
