As you know Solus since recently packages Zotero, and unlike other systems (caugh...arch), Solus follows build from source guide, and not just repackage release binaries. Many trial and errors on my side withheld package update from 5.x branch to 6.0.x, but if you followed you have noticed it's been updated to 6.0.8. And today I'm updating Solus package to fresh 6.0.9 Zotero version. In this topic share your experience how Zotero helps you manage your library of papers, articles and ebooks.
I'll start. My escape for more than decade have been ebooks and I used to use calibre, then apple iBooks, and now Zotero to organize my reading. Here are my tips I learned while using it
- Rading pdfs in Zotero and in general is eye pleasing, but with 16x9 screens I got habit to switch pdf renderer to horizontal scroll as it uses screen estate more effectively
- If you're in academia, Zotero gets you bibliography file for your citation management. I use org-mode citation feature in emacs with bibliography file to generate references in my papers
- fb2converter and pandoc help getting reading content to your preferred formats, mine are pdf, epub, and occasionally web snapshot
- I dont rely on Zotero indexing, but use recoll for full text search on my reading content. Recoll does decent job for FTS
- With zotero firefox connector I've come to think of Zotero as a Wayback machine on my laptop: it stores and manages offline library of any kind of reading content
Note: all software excl apple iBooks and firefox connector I mention above is available in Solus package repository.
