gozo Small cosmetic update suggestion - copyright message on both main website and on forum is still 2021. With departure of certain team members time didn't stop so we better upgrade to reflect that we are still kicking!
Probably not a bad idea to update that, but if I had to choose I'd focus on more important things like package updates/fixes as a metric for being "alive and kicking" ^^
gozo how stable everything is.
gozo As long standing user I can happily report that stability is still awesome
Seems like you answered at least one of your questions yourself 😃
It should be as stable as usual. Some minor issues due to the huge glibc and toolchain update, but most of that should be fixed by now. In general, we wouldn't sync to the "Stable" repository if things weren't "stable".
So the answer to that questions will/should never be "Oh, stability is just awful, but we pushed the updates anyway."
gozo What are the newer kernel plans are (5.17?) and what is the potential timing for v4.4 release.
Can't give you an ETA, but we will of course update our kernel in due time. Solus always strives to have a recent kernel version, with the exception of some troublesome releases (e.g. 5.15). Focus of the next sync will be the GNOME stack upgrade tough.
gozo Also, wondering (as most users) what the future plans are
I think DataDrake is still working on a big blog post that should answer some of those questions. Until that is released I can just point to a general answer that I gave on reddit:
