For those interested, Josh published "State of the Budgie: April 2022" on the BuddiesOfBudgie website. Nothing startling, but interesting.

Coming back to that point #3 a couple times was interesting. Started off as a roadmap of Budgie future, became open about funding, then lapsed into a mission statement (zzzzz no offense Josh🙂), then announcement of two workshops dedicated to Budgie communication protocols. Nothing startling, but interesting is how I'd put it, too.
He's got a plan.
I wonder if he's proud of Budgie being the flagship for what I believe is the only the second distro after Solus: Ultramarine? Likely, he should be.

I never heard of ultramarine. Had to check it out. Good review here Sounds like the Budgie vision came through - seen as a "classic desktop with modern style."

That's one of the best distro reviews I've ever read. Defiinitely not just taliing points from a web page. I didn't run into the problem with the GNOME panel crashing (yet), so apparently I wasn't as thorough as the author was when I evaluated it.

There may be nothing remarkable about Ultramarine (other than maybe btrfs by default), but it's a distro that I liked well enough to keep. It's one of two non-solus distros for which the VM lives on in my VBox manager, and which I enjoy visiting from time to time. Today has been one of those times.

A very early disappointment with Red Hat left such a bad taste, I'd never tried any Fedora-based distro until now, and I found it quite nice. Of all the ones I've evaluated -- so far -- it's the one I could be most comfortable with, should Solus ever go away.

WetGeek I like the distrowatch reviews - usually strong and practical. no real agenda. Just a love for linux.
I think the last time I really tried Fedora was back at 9 - like you, I really did not enjoy it. Remember it as troublesome and sluggish.

I just went on 35 while waiting for the new Solus ISO as I cannot load solus on this desktop without a more recent kernel. I really really like it. I mean, smooth and Gnome 41.4 is growing on me. I mean, I have two extensions - caffeine and vitals. The esthetics are not as pleasing as budgie and I still prefer budgie but I've never enjoyed Gnome. Was with KDE for well over a decade before I found budgie.

Fedora 35 = just a really cool and smooth distro. Zero problems so far w/ 100% software and customizations I need (perhaps not want given Gnome limitations on fonts, etc)

I was grateful for Solus the second I read that letter, you are correct.

I know this was for Wetgeek but I generally agree about the reviews except there are a LOT of cretins that leave a "1" for a distro and trash it because they couldn't get past the install, and not for the merits of the DE itself. But I do trust the other others and I see no agenda either.

brent Yeah, trolls everywhere when it comes to comment section. The reviews are solid and I usually avoid comments. Prefer to form my own opinion.
