Before i get started all replies are insanely and graciously appreciated. So i have this external hard-drive i use to store data on mainly business documents, personal photos, YouTube Channel archives, My music i keep on local-host only (mp3's) and so on. This is where it starts getting scary i pulled some business files from my work computer (Windows 10) and then re-plugged my external hard-drive into my main PC (Solus) and suddenly the hard drive started going crazy. Sometimes the hard drive wouldn't pop up, the computer wouldn't boot if the hard-drive was plugged in, The transfer speeds would be VERY low then drop to 0 and never go back up. Basically my external hard-drive is going out, and since I'm obviously panic stricken and also newish to Solus out of desperation i decided to come here for potential help. I did some research and basically decided the easiest and best course of action considering my external hard-drive is just data on a NTFS drive would be just to use Gparted to copy the data from the current bad hard-drive to another external hard drive i had as a backup that has no data on it at all and is the same size. But the problem i come into while trying to accomplish this task is the copy feature of Gparted is completely blanked out for both external drives which is confusing considering before you can even use Gparted Solus asks for the root password which makes me assume I'm in admin right? Does anyone have any advice for me about what i might potentially be doing wrong? If i do lose my data what's the best course of action formatting the drive if possible and using a data-recovery tool? All replies are greatly appreciated i definitely learned my lesson about making backups of everything even my 150$ external HDD. 😰
