I don't know if it's polite to leave my praise for the developers of the Solus project here, but I need to do this urgently! 🙂 I'm a musician and I don't understand anything about computer/development/programming languages... But I've been using linux distros exclusively for a few years (maybe 5 or 6), and since then I've used a few. I think I could see their differences (pros and cons), their peculiarities and workflow. Well, I finally found Solus OS! It's been a few days and I'm delighted with the system, especially when I discovered that it already came with Jack2 installed and ready to use. Solus is beautiful, fast, simple and very practical for my daily use and for my work. It's on my main machine and here it will stay! Anyway, I just wanted to say that it would be a shame for the project not to continue, so I wish you a long life and leave my humble availability in case a musician can be of any use to Solus 🙂 Thank you all!

The Solus icon is a sailboat. Something related to sounds of the sea would be remarkable. Waves crashing, gulls keening, that sort of thing. Just an idea.

RicSense The alert sound panel at the bottom of Settings -> Sound pannel has four sounds that come stock for notifications on my Solus Budgie install. We have Bark, Drip, Glass, and Sonar. Personally, I have always kept the drip sound, but a nice, short riff (piano, guitar, bass, horn, other wind instrument, et al) would be very cool 😃

WetGeekI finally took the time to play around with the idea of composing some alert sounds for the system. I must confess: it was difficult! 🙂 The duality of the project - restricted time duration and the infinite possibilities of "musical styles/aesthetics" made me decide on the following approach: use my electric bass (low) and add synthetic sound effects (mid and high) to it. I could have chosen so many other picks, but this is the one I ended up deciding...
Anyway, I created some examples this morning (here in my city it's a rainy and gray Saturday - Ijuí, Brazil), and I made it available in this folder for those who are curious: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1AJST-zFBZvxBwCQDyAmKxeQJiBTULlna?usp=sharing

I need to remind that this is just for fun, there is no intention to suggest anything to the Solus project, let alone have I been asked by the developers to create this palette of sounds. This is the result of an informal chat here on the forum.

You guys came up with great and different ideas 🙂 I'll think carefully about what would be musically/sonically viable as the system sounds are "short music" (at least the default). And my question is: does the Solus project want this? It wouldn't be intrusive to compose such a tool without being asked... Or are you asking for the project? Excuse my bluntness, but I don't want to sound pedantic by suggesting a change to system sounds if that change isn't considered.

RicSense truth be told we were all excited at the idea of expanding default sounds. No one in this thread is a Solus Dev or speaks for Solus. It's good you brought that up.

RicSense Very true; none of us have sway, though I imagine we could steer someone who does this way. Not to say anything needs to change for like 5 Solus users, but it could be fun to have some talent create variaty.

RicSense Unfortunatley, I can't get to the google drive folder you were trying to share! I'd love to see what you've worked up. Maybe there's another way you can share them?

RicSense I also like to have a good time making sounds, specifically with LMMS, although I am more given to making images. 😅
I made the folders myself from scratch, except for some icons inside the .SVG files (Like the one in the Music, Videos and Games folder), but I'm in the process of replacing them. I only use them as a reference. 😅

Bhibb can confirm yesterday: while logged into my google account, the link above threw me a permissions problem. So yes, inaccessible.

Brucehankins yeah I guess thats a comfort level thing totally...I don't like requesting entrance to anyone's digital house, very rare. If you want me in then open the door🙂. Even at work I only do attachments b/c I will not work in Drives with too many chiefs as the old saying goes. (I personally am fascinated by internet minutiae like this.)

brent yeah, I get that. I've had to work with sharing of files and directories for different web apps, onedrive, Google drive, and sharepoint a lot, so I'm used to sending and receiving access request for specific files.

RicSense Personally, I have been really liking https://toffeeshare.com/ for sharing files between/among people. It's peer-to-peer, and as long as you keep the tab open, others with the link you provide can access whatever you host there. Once you close the tab, then the files are no longer being shared. Also, it boasts end-to-end encryption.

That's my go-to now!
Personally, I try to use as few Google products as possible. That includes a Gmail account :-/
