I've been writing on a book for around a year that introduces Linux as a desktop operating system for new to Linux users. The target group being creatives who for some reason are fed up with Windows/MacOS side and like to get a quick overview of the Linux side options. It uses Linux Mint Cinnamon, but does mention Solus. Overall my personal experience is that it can be good for new users to start with a Ubuntu based distribution, but as they go deeper Solus could be an option if they like newer packages, different desktop etc.
I'm soon getting at a point where this is getting ready to be published. I'd appreciate some input if anybody got the time and interest to take a look: https://git.sr.ht/~rickylinden/linuxbook . If you just like a fairly up to date compiled pdf you can get that from my website https://rickylinden.com/pdf/linuxbook.pdf
