mkl GNOME prioritizes simplicity and minimal configurability. Everything works. But a lot of things simply can't be customized or modified.

mkl Again, GNOME is very good, but it stops short of the 400-meter mark at 350 meters. KDE, on the other hand, runs all the way to the finish line.

This may be of interest to you - Mirko Brombin of Bottles and Vanilla OS fame is currently making his own desktop environment that appears to be heavily GNOME inspired, but is not as constrained in scope and functionality. I've been eyeing it as a potential more pragmatic alternative.

The project has a provisional website: https://sinty.dev/ although his twitter feed (linked from the site) is more up to date.

that description is exactly what I thought Cosmic was but after testing it on EOS I thought it retained a lot of those restraints. This should be interesting.

I always say that I really like gnome and it is true but in the end, I think that plasma is a better choice. So here is my simple Plasma desktop. i really like the overview function in gnome so I also use the one in plasma. What I did, I changed the keybinds for the overview to be the same as gnome.

It is a time now that I work with Solus and it is great. At the beginning I started with Budgie and I published the screenshot. After some time with gnome I tried out in these days to get work niri with waybar. I managed a lot. I defined a wallpaper for each monitor connected, reduced the waybar and show it only on my main-screen. Here is my mainscreen after having started a new session

Current KDE. I switched awhile back because I wanted to try it. Nothing bad to say. In fact, I think it is objectively the most comprehensive desktop for most users... To the point where I would recommend it for newcomers, just because a lot of the things people expect a desktop to have are built right in. But I still miss Budgie. I think I will be moving back soon.

My background is a photo my wife and I took at Crater Lake circa 2018ish.
