@DataDrake The RIT update server is effectively non-functional right now (15:58 US Central 02032022), as I discovered in the process of a fresh install (so far, 26 of 363 packages downloaded in 90 minutes). @Staudey reported in another thread that the server host staff is working on fixing the issue. If the ETA isn't reasonably firm and likely to resolve in the next few hours, it might make sense to hold off on this week's updates until the problem is resolved and tested. No point in aggravating the entire Solus community over an upstream problem.

WetGeek No point in aggravating our RIT hosts, either.

Solus is the tip of the iceberg, I'm betting. RIT (mirrors.rit.edu) hosts any number of Linux distros and repositories. Just for the heck of it, after I finally finished up five hours of sudo eopkg up, repeat and repeat again, over and over, and got Solus updated and up and running, I attempted to download an Ubuntu ISO from the RIT server. It failed three times mid-download before I called it a day. Something is really wrong at RIT right now.

Harvey Can confirm, not Solus specific.

Lots and lots. RIT seems to have this issue periodically. RIT says "We have many many gigglebits of bandwidth." The problem might not be with the server itself so much as with delivery infrastructure in and out. Whatever the case, I hope that RIT will get itself sorted, not just this time around but going forward.

Even I agree with this now. Today I tried to replace Windows with Solus Plasma on a laptop I want to give to my granddaughter. The installation went well, but trying to update it was the worst I've ever seen.

Of 483 packages to upgrade, I got to 206 after about 50 eopkg restarts, and after another 10, I only got up to 60% of that one downloaded - linux-firmware. I'm patient, but not that patient.

Sorry, the admins are working on it. It seems to be an intermittent firewall issue where things get accidentally blocked and then unblocked. Weird bug they are trying to track down.
