solus insall usb and blank screen

i downloaded the iso via torrent
it is fine

$ sha256sum -c Solus-4.0-Budgie.iso.sha256sum
Solus-4.0-Budgie.iso: OK

I then burnt it to a usb using

dd bs=4M if=Solus-4.0-Budgie.iso of=/dev/sde

i then boot it on my laptop and selected the budgie option.

it has now been more than 45 minutes with a blank screen. (it did similar on my imac for over 15 minutes)

it boots in virtualbox

this time boot had a kernel panic

right. so while secure boot is disabled.

the laptop still only boots uefi enabled drives. i can't see where the legacy option is if there is one.

is there an uefi enabled iso or a way to build a usb that is uefi compatible?

milomak The one ISO can be boot in EFI or Legacy mode, it will boot the appropriate one depending on how your system is set up.

I usually don't do this, but I confess that I forgot to do the usual "search before you post", so I put up info about possibly the same issue here: https://discuss.getsol.us/d/1019-black-screen-after-usb-boot-but-sound-works

(Although that last bit about a kernel panic, I haven't seen. Maybe you should try a different USB/USB port?)

Unfortunately I haven't yet figured out what is going on, but the main point is, after messing around with BIOS settings and rebooting a number of times, I was able to get things working a few times. I also used dd to write the usb.

I usually disable fast boot in BIOS too, when messing with these things.

Do you hear any login chime sounds when you get to the blank screen? Is the blank screen after the usual boot log text scrolls by, or does it never get that far?
