Hi!
First of all, thanks for this amazing operating system (hope Joshua leaving isn't gonna kill Solus)! I can't even comprehend how one could make my laptop run so ludicrously fast (faster than bare bones Arch from my experience, actually), and it's quite stable too!
Hardware specs:
- Intel i5-3427U
- 8GB DDR3 @1.3GHz (2 sticks)
- Intel HD 4000 (no dedicated graphics)
- SanDisk SD5SB2-128G-1006E (not sure why the SSD would matter, to be fair)
Whilst I love GNOME, it's way too slow and sluggish.. and whilst Budgie and MATE are fast, I decided to try Plasma, as I rarely ever touch this desktop environment, but then the problems arose:
Plasma will drop to 1 fps (not hyperbolic) after I change any sort of setting, such as any compositor related setting, animation speed, task switcher theme, theme, or icon theme. For the sake of curiosity, I enabled the "Show FPS" Desktop Effect under Tools (this didn't cause the drop in fps, however), and indeed, it shows 1 fps for most of the time, sometimes 2 fps (whereas normally, it's glued to 60 fps). This doesn't seem to be a hardware issue, as videos and songs kept playing perfectly, just the visual aspect was completely ruined by the immense drop in frame rate. After nearly a day of uptime, I haven't had this happen spontaneously.
Besides this, I've found that there are some minor visual glitches, like in Firefox's search bar (there's a tiny little rectangle sometimes showing up - not a huge issue, but this may indicate something wrong with the drivers, I'm not sure), the cursor from the SolusDark theme will show up for a split second before going back to Breeze Dark's (I use Breeze Dark as my theme, rather than SolusDark), and some other very small glitches which don't really bother me, I'm just pointing them out, as they might indicate some other issue I haven't noticed yet (which may be linked to the performance issue).
(all packages are up-to-date, as this install was done just a few days ago, so there shouldn't be anything inherently wrong with the packages - although, upon checking for broken packages noto-sans-ttf was marked as broken, but has since been reinstalled)
Any and all help is appreciated, thank you so much!
