Slack (snap) has no icon in the System Tray applet

I installed slack as a snap but it has no icon in the system tray applet on budgie which is quite annoying. Anything I can do to make the icon show up?

Hi! I had the same issue some time ago, and I wrote about it here as well.
My solution was to use flatpak instead.

Report it upstream to the snap provider. They are likely the ones that can fix it.

I have switched to the flatpak version for now and contacted the developers about the issue.

From Slack support: Thanks for clarifying. Our engineers actually already have a bug open to fix what you're seeing with the snap's tray icon. So hopefully they'll be able to get it fixed soon. I'm sorry for the inconvenience in the meantime.

What I've noticed is that the icon is missing in the task list as well as the workspace switcher Budgie applets, it's that generic window icon

Yeah I know, that's another thing that sucks.

I have a solution for it though:

Just edit /var/lib/snapd/desktop/applications/slack_slack.desktop,
and add "StartupWMClass=Slack"

The thing is that you will have to do this after every Slack update.
