Hello,
I just installed Solus on my Macbook pro. Im usually a Debian user but i wan't to try Solus.
I have some problems to making work my printer Brother DCP7055W. In Debian it was working out of the box so i checked on synaptic and Debian seems to use this package to make it work : https://github.com/pdewacht/brlaser
So i was thinking that maybe I can compile this source to make it work on Solus too. The thing is, this is the first time that i have to compile something. Usually it was on the Debian repos. But in a way its great so i can learn how to do it 🙂.
I checked on the Help Center and I found a "Building a package" page : https://getsol.us/articles/packaging/building-a-package/en/
So i installed everything needed with this command : sudo eopkg install -c system.devel
I installed git, to clone the sources
I created a directory named printer-driver in my home folder and typed from there I typed : git clone https://github.com/pdewacht/brlaser.git
In the readme they say...
To compile brlaser you'll need CMake and the CUPS development packages (libcups2-dev, libcupsimage2-dev or similar).
Get the code by cloning the git repo . Compile and install with these commands:
cmake .
make
sudo make install
It might be needed to restart CUPS after this.
I guess i have to "cd" into the brlaser folder created after the git clone command and run cmake, make, sudo make install command
But I don't really know what should I do from here because in the page "Building a package" they say that we have to use Solbuid, to configure a lot of stuff. And in the readme they just says that we have to type these 3 commands
cmake .
make
sudo make install
I don't want to copy and paste commands without knowing what im doing I prefer to ask. Even if I know its a newbie question.
Whats the benefits / utility to use solbuild more than the comands in the readme?
Thanks for your help
