I want to report that I wasn't able to install Solus KDE on my PC:
My issue: The Solus installer successfuly installed Solus on my Root and Swap partitions, then the installer said: "Installation has failed, and changes were made to disk. The installer will now exit. Failed to update bootloader configuration".
My solution: I removed two folders from my EFI partition:
I was able to install Solus Budgie yesterday without any problems.
I returned to Solus (Yes, i started my Linux journey with Solus - in the past I didn't want to switch to Linux for longer) from openSUSE (after 6 months of using it - I didn't like their messy repos.) and I can also report that I had problems with loading Nvidia settings in the past (I don't know if it's solved now) - I had to start the Nvidia control panel to load my settings (I used a script for that).
Additionally i will share my thoughts and suggestions about Budgie & Plasma (I wanted to focus on beginners, so you can make their life a bit easier):
- Mounting partitions on boot is complicated for an average user (I edited my /etc/fstab file).
- I would really love to see the AppImage Launcher to be preinstalled - it would be just nice and helpful for less experienced people.
- I don't like the fact that I can't run the file explorer with sudo - I had to use Hiren's Boot to edit my EFI partition (I had no time for other solutions).
- There is no simple way to edit default paths of shortcuts in Nautilus - I store my pictures, music, documents on a different partition. [Dolphin offers it].
- The image viewer in Budgie can't perform simple tasks like: cropping, etc. [Plasma offers it].
- Users need better KDE Connect integration on Budgie.
I'm going to switch to Solus Budgie in the future but at this moment I will stay with the KDE version.
Sorry for my messy message but I'm a bit rushing. Best regards for the team!
