Solus Plasma, Lenovo Ideapad 3 (all AMD). Installed Friday's updates. Takes forever to boot. Prompts me for kdewallet password. Desktop when it does finally boot is super slow almost to the point of being completely unresponsive. Was able to get to a terminal, sudo eopkg check shows all good. Rolled back update, everything back to completely normal. Just for fun, re-installed the update via terminal, no issues seen, rebooted and back to being unusable and I had to rollback again.

Just checked my wifes laptop, we have identical ones. Same issue and I had to roll hers back as well.

Looks like the updates are QT, python, kernel, and some misc stuff like android-tools. Assuming since I'm getting the kded5/kdewallet login with the update, that I have never seen before, it may be QT related?

I have an Arch install on a portable SSD, I plugged it in and it ran fine. It's running newer kernel/plasma/QT versions.

I'm not the only one. Another guy using Budgie is having the same issue:

Hello, I have the exact same issues. I've updated my Solus Budgie this morning. When I booted it back, I've had the sames issues that you describe. Sometimes, the system just freezes and I have to hard reset.

I have a dual boot with another Linux system (Manjaro), and it runs just fine, without all the slowness.

AMD Ryzen 3 3200G
16gb RAM
AMD Vega 8 Graphics

zmaint I have had the same problem on my Asus laptop, exactly as you described, since the last Friday Oct 29 update.

    AMD Ryzen 5 3500U
    AMD Radeon Vega 8
    Solus Plasma

If I boot using the former kernel, 5.14.14, I can boot without any issue.
I suspect this is a problem between the new kernel 5.14.15 and AMD, because on my desktop I have an Intel CPU and Nvidia Graphic Card (also Solus Plasma) and it works fine after the last update (kernel 5.14.15)

    I ask for help

joluveba Here's how to roll back. https://getsol.us/articles/package-management/history-and-rollback/en/
If you wait it out you should be able to get your console up. For me it was ctrl+alt+t, then I could rollback to before the upgrade.
You could also hit escape during boot and choose the previous kernel as Lucien_Lachance suggeted. I didn't try it. I was thinking it was Plasma related.
I also have a desktop with AMD processor (Ryzen 9) and an Nvidia card (RTX2060), haven't tried to update it yet.

zmaint Thank you for the advice!

I don't want to roll back, because the problem is with kernel 5.14.15, the other updated packages are fine.

Yes, choosing the previous kernel works, it's exactly what I'm doing now, I'm writing this post on my Asus with kernel 5.14.14. Using my laptop with kernel 5.14.15 is impossible. I hope that the Solus team can find a solution, because this failure is crippling.

I assure you that this failure is not related to Plasma, my desktop with Intel and Nvidia works perfectly under Solus Plasma after the update.

If you dare to update your desktop, please let us know about the outcome.

Agreed, hopefully this will be addressed soon.

Same issue here. System: Ryzen 5 Pro 3400g.

This ist the most severe issue I ever had with Solus. I hope that will get fixed soon.

Only thing I can do now is not updating the Kernel. Sad!

So how do we get this fixed? File for a bug report? (How do I do that?) Or just wait until the next kernel update?

Also it appears AMD CPU related not GPU as I previously thought.

I'd like to add that I've noticed there's issues with booting/loading the X server on a fresh install of Solus KDE plasma.
Until the NVIDIA drivers are installed x will crash before the login prompt. After everything is updated and drivers installed the issue goes away.

zmaint Ryzen 3400g is an APU (with Radeon™ RX Vega 11). I have the same iGPU and same issue.

zmaint Interesting I'm running an AMD CPU and I have yet to experience those problems.

I've had problems with the update - if I minimise a window it closes. I first noticed it with Libre but same problem with terminal window. Nasty problem in Libre, because if you're writing something and this happens, Libre cannot recover the document. (I'm a writer) Also, bluetooth has stopped working - won't recognize devices at all; they just don't register.
It would be great if this could be fixed. This problem seems to be cropping up in other posts, I'd hate to have to change back to another distro, I REALLY like Solus, but I need the stability, particularly with docs. Any clues?

redearthman Yeah I'm at a complete loss other than it's kernel related. I've been on Plasma since its release, and this is the first actual issue I've ran into that wasn't self-inflicted.

I slowly have a suspicion it's kernel related as well, I'm pushing right now 5.23.2 to unstable and I gonna see if my system is more stable but sofar a bit annoying with amd CPU/GPU :/

can confirm that the issue is both on plasma & budgie (tried both with the same effect), so its rather kernel related .

hmm. In the past, when I was using the Kubuntu Distro, if I'm not mistaken, Plasma Shell suddenly stopped working (and displayed a black screen) for a while and then the Shell could be used again as before. Once, I added a Backport PPA to upgrade KDE Plasma 5 to the latest version. in the KDE Neon distribution, there are no bugs related to the shell until now (I've tried it before). Switched distros again some time to Ubuntu Budgie 21.04 there was a glitch on the Budgie desktop.
First: When I open the "About" page in GNOME Settings it displays an error report, Error displays the message "gnome-control-center-print-renderer" Stopped Working.
Second: sometimes also when HDD is busy up to 100% disk Budgie wm displays the error report Budgie Budgie wm Stop Working.

October 18, 2021 The morning I have tried and Installed Solus OS 4.3 Until now November 2, 2021. There are no problems in the Budgie Desktop Environment especially related to Bugs until now. But some fonts such as Display Names in Telegram Messenger do not display well, such as Javanese script letters. unless it displays a checkered character. @JoshStrobl When do you want to add Unicode Fonts? Especially for Asian fonts such as: Korean, Chinese, Japanese and Javanese characters in the Solus OS repository?

OwO You have a Nvidia graphic card, don't you? Perhaps that's the crux of the matter, this problem affects only computers with AMD graphic cards.
