Hello! I have the problem: when I watch a video with VLC or any other Video Player, I get a lot of tearing (it does not happen on any web browser). I tried all the solutions in previous posts but it did not help anything. I installed the proprietary graphics drivers (NVIDIA 840M) and after some configurations like changing /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf, but it blanked completely my screen after rebooting. Any suggestions to fix the tearing on VLC?
Tearing VLC videos (or any video player)
This will be a really strange suggestion, but back a long while ago I was having problems with tearing in vlc that would bizarrely resolve itself so long as I had the effects and filters popup window open. Ever since then I have just always kept the window open whenever I watch videos. I honestly have no idea why this works, or what was causing the tearing for me to begin with, but what I can say is that as long as I kept that window open the tearing would disappear. Worth trying out at least to see if it fixes your problem as well.
Perhaps you can try to go in Tools -> Preferences -> Video and play a little with the different outputs to see if it helps.
Max_The_Bear Wow! It worked for me as well. Crazy! I am wondering why this behavior. Thanks for the tip.
