Hi all
I'm new to Solus, which I've just installed on my aging Dell Latitude 6440 laptop.
The title tells you the problem. I can't claim any credit for the fix, which I found on a Linux Mint forum.
So, it seems to be a bug with the latest Mate desktop environment. Even after choosing the pictures folder as a screensaver, it just goes to a blank screen.
The solution is as follows: first, perform all necessary updates; then, allow the timeout which would normally activate the screensaver. If your experience is the same as mine, you will get a blank screen.
Then, in a terminal, paste the following:
mate-screensaver-command --exit && mate-screensaver & disown
You will need to restart the computer for this to take effect.
I'm posting this in the hope it may be of help to someone using Solus Mate.
Regards
D
