concerning messenger ...

Hello and nice night ... what is the best messenger for to send only SMS with ?! I need this as tool in case, when smartphone is "out of service". The thing is, that some contacts still have a G2-Handy and for this then I would only need a messenger to send SMS with. Is "riot" a good choice ? Or are there else good (independent) messengers ?

DirtyAngel I use signal, if the receiver doesnt have signal he gets an sms, do they have it it uses it will be a signal message (how do you even call a non SMS message?)

A second vote for Signal, it's very good security wise and full featured to boot.

I use Signal too but it doesn't allow you to send sms from the desktop app as far as I know. I think Google Messages may and Telegram might as well, it's been a while.

I tried pulse, Viber, Textra and some others trying to get messaging set up on a wifi only tablet I had, nothing really worked well enough that I kept it around.

Yes and if it is about sms-messenger like in Android (10) - then there is this Google App "messages" - however it would be then like "BigGoo" ... and at configuration they demand to use QRC-Scanner ... you need to combine with smartphone then ...

Apparently there is no independent sms-solution running by itself only in desktop (without combination with smartphone) - yes, and ... (clear : would be then prohibited to send free sms ... ).

DirtyAngel yeah, using a smartphone link and Google is the rub there. But if you're already using those services and just looking for a way to message from another device, it's not a terrible option.

I used an old Palm Pre 2 on wifi with Google Voice only for a while, you do what you gotta do.
